Sitting in my office, door slightly ajar, I heard Jimmy, the QA guy, talking loudly and sarcastically to of my programmers.

>“So, Vinuth, will it work this time? Huh?”

I sat up, listening intently. The dev mumbled something, and Jimmy snorted and left. As he passed my door, he smiled and pleasantly said, “Hey boss!”, giving me a thumbs-up.

Red face, I just nodded. I was upset. Jimmy shouldn’t treat anyone like that, but especially not one of his teammates. His sarcasm was over the top, and he was acting like a bully.

I sat back in my chair, fuming. If only Jimmy wasn’t such a bully and wasn’t such a jerk. If only he’d take correction better, rather than getting defensive and upset.

“I’m just glad I don’t have to live with him,” I thought. Turning back, I pretended it didn’t happen.

But pretending was my big mistake.

>Pretending I hadn’t heard it.

>Pretending it wasn’t a big deal to Vinuth.

>Pretending “that’s just how Jimmy is” was a reasonable excuse.

>Pretending that Vinuth should deal with it.

>Pretending that no one saw how I handled it.

Today’s lesson: When you see something amiss, don’t pretend it didn’t happen.

Maybe a developer isn’t following the process.

Maybe your boss is micromanaging your team.

Maybe someone is coming late to every meeting.

Maybe someone isn’t paying close attention to code reviews.

Pretending it didn’t happen won’t fix the problem. It will, in fact, send the message that either you approve of the behavior or blind to it.

Instead, have a conversation. Say something. Pull them aside and seek to understand the situation. Directly give someone correction that “What I just saw isn’t okay here.”

But don’t pretend it didn’t happen anymore.

Ok, have that conversation you’ve been dreading. You’ll be glad you did.

A great way to get you fired quick.

Also not /tech/ related in the slightest way. kys

had a similar shit.

when the boss didn't react in any reasonable way when he was informed that programmers really get upset because some other people in the same (((office))) listen to "music" with loudspeakers and make unnecessary loud mumble in general.

I think I don't need to tell what happened next.

Is Vinuth a pajeet name? Why the fuck should I care?

Even your pic portraits a poo-in-loo.

Go to your designated street, subhuman feces.

This is how soybeans would write if you gave them a keyboard and taught them to type.

>hear something you're morally objected to

>instead of doing something about it, ignore it

>feel so guilty about it that you write a blog post trying to spin it like you learned a valuable life lesson by being a pussy that doesn't do anything

The best part is he's acting like it was some 20/20 hindsight moment for him, like Vinuth fucking committed suicide and now the boss emotionally realizes his mistakes and tries to tell everybody else what they should do -- except that's not what fucking happened at all. Poor Vinuth, probably doesn't even know his soyboy boss has crafted an entire fantasy sphere of victimization around him so he can virtue signal to strangers on the internet and feel better about himself. All Vinuth wanted to do was poo in the loo.

As someone who has worked as a developer, analyst, and lead, I can tell you that that blogger-manager was a developer, and never wore any other hats before becoming a manager. These types of autistic managers always fail to see the big picture; your analyst is doing you a favor by representing the client's interest and holding the programmer to the requirements contract. If the quality of the code is so bad, or the culture of the office so degraded, that the analyst has to rub his balls in the dev's face like that, you've been mismanaging your office. It's gonna get a lot worse when the client rips your asshole for bugs or failed requirements.

Depends on how shitty the office is, but sometimes rocking the boat will get you fired. In places like that it's sooner a question of learning how much bs you can tune out and how much you can cover your ass.

0: Take responsibilities of your own actions.

1: Don't take responsibilities for the actions of others.

The responsibility of a boss is too make the company run, as a human he could always try arrange the possible problems himself but that's actually a HR problem the boss just has to report to the HR who should have experience in dealing with human conflict.

It isn't necessarily Jimmy''s fault that the devs can't handle shitty humor, and the devs should ask nicely asked to jimmy to just stop it until the actual final work is released and working aka when the tension is over.

Everybody has a fucking mouth but it seems that each time someone opens it to to say nothing that while help anyone.

I did this long before escalating to the boss, and multiple times (and it didn't work obviously).

(the response of the boss was something like "hey you're dumbass lol" without addressing the actual problem in any way)
