>Taking a networking class

>No physical book, just this.

>The fucking index starts at the top with no way of getting to chapter to chapter quickly.

>Reading the "book" is a pain because you either read it in a box the size of a phone or you're reading the content in a box the size of two phones but now you can't see the example.

Who ever thought this was a good idea, to put all the material on some retarded website, deserves a noose.

Web Apps are the future. Submit or be destroyed.

 No.872381>>872573 >>873513

That's pretty disgusting. I recommend you go and buy a proper book on networking. This looks like it was made for black women taking 'continuing education' being trained how to become a corporate cog.

Wrong. You can either use the shit web interface like you are doing

or buy a physical / ebook of it.

Hopefully you don't have to do the quizzes or exams, Flash Player 8 is a dependency, and it uses this crappy 'canvas' software. I wish the desktop internet wasn't designed for Chrome/Windows 7, but that's what virtual machines are for.

When you have developers being given instructions by business suits that only know PowerPoint, this is what happens. When you have a webex meeting with someone and they share their screen and you see the abyss, 15 PowerPoint windows deep amidst a backdrop of desktop icons -- that is when you will know despair.

Holy shit dude, thank you so much. Nobody told me about a physical book in this shitty class. Anywhere I can pirate this?

>>872398

From what I can tell, almost everything in the class is done on this shitty little website. At least the computer I'm doing this all on is my "I don't give a shit about security" computer. I'm really behind because this book is so shitty. Thank god everything in the class is due the last day because otherwise I probably would have failed by now.

I couldn't find a copy other than a sample which included just chapter one. You might have better luck though.

I was provided with a similar web based shitty system to read the lectures from. As a challenge I wrote a script to fetch the text and dump+format it in a text file. You could try doing the same, at least it would be fun. Fucking up applications like that is what kept my programming joy through the years.

Computer Networks by Tanenbaum is a solid classic

Computer Networking by Kurose is often used for networking courses at university.

These explain the nuts and bolts of the protocols though, not necessarily ideal for a network "engineer" who just needs to learn what things plug into what.

 No.872600

>>872573

Also I'd be remiss not to include the three books by Stevens on TCP/IP and sockets. Again, not for a network "engineer", these are more for low level programmers. Shit webdevs won't need these either.

God... I have to use those on the daily. I tried to install the mobile apps on my burner phone to avoid ruining my fully libre computer with Flash. The damn thing didn't work. I ended up using the library computer. Useful note for the textbook mobile app, though: Once you download the textbook it's just stored as a DRM free PDF file. Move it onto a proper computer and you have a (less) hellish experience.

is it so hard to just copy the text and paste it in to your favorite word crunching program? or just modify the raw html so it doesnt suck so hard? or just save the whole page and do literally anything you want to it?

 No.873324>>873344

All of the examples are from what I can tell are embedded flash files so even that really isn't an option because half of the text says "watch the example faggit lol"

So don't read it. Use the books anons suggested above which will subsume this content. Judging from that ToC, it seems condescendingly simplistic.

God, this is the stuff of nightmares. I had to use one of these online textbooks in an economics class I had, and it was fucking garbage. I had a pdf I found off of libgen that I could use instead, but I ended up paying $75 for this online trash just so I could do the Always Online™ homework. Truly this shit is fucking cancer and fuck instructors if they think this is anyway to distribute and teach otherwise free material.

 No.873544>>873564

>>873344

I mean I suppose I could do that. I just worry that I won't be able to finish the homework. If it's as simplistic as you say it is though those recommended books will probably pull me through.

 No.873564

>>873544

It really depends on how your course is structured. Those books go quite deep, but if your course is wide ranging yet shallow, they'll be a waste of your time. If your course is hands on and applied, just stick to what they give you. If it's more theoretical, then I the alternative sources are fantastic.

One day, if you really like studying networks, you should look into Queuing Theory. Fun stuff!

I bet you look at really hardcore porn, like the really disgusting, poop-eating kind of porn. And instead of feeling disgusted, you get aroused. Seeing people literally eat shit turns you on. But then someone makes a snide comment about black women - and let me remind you, this is on an imageboard where the word 'nigger is thrown around like frisbees at a dog park - and then you reflexively leap to condemn him for making that comment. You condemn him in a very uptalking manner, like a typical fucking soyboy millennial.

And you don't even see a single thing that's wrong with that. You don't see why you're considered trash and a subhuman around here. You will beat your meat to shit-eating porn, but leap to puritan self-righteous witch-hunting when someone dares to say something that offends you in the absolutely most minimal way possible. And worst of all? You do it here, on this imageboard of all FUCKING PLACES. You come into our home and shit on the carpet, and then you act offended that the carpet you happened to shit on was the wrong color.

Get out, and never come back. Do not even lurk.
