Long time Thinkpad (Chinkpad?) user here. They got us laptops at work replacing some shitty old optiplex desktops. My current personal laptop is an X200 tablet, and I also use an X61 tablet some times. I have had quite a few thinkpads before there so I am very used to the Trackclit. My only exposure to trackpads is on my sister's macbook air, the last trackpad I ever used extensively before that was a serial port external trackpad in the 90s (Cirque Cat I think)
Needless to say, the dell laptops have been a rude awakening. The trackpads are incredibly inaccurate and jumpy with really bad precision. The multitouch gestures are a fucking joke, half the time they don't work and i thing two finger scroll emulates a scroll wheel flick. Say what you will about Apple's overpriced hardware but their trackpads are very pleasant and natural to use. To add insult to injury, the fucking dell's trackpad surface is some textured plastic and after about 8 months, it's starting to develop spots where the finish texture is worn off, so now in addition to being shitty, the amount of friction varies depending on how worn it is. We're working around it by sticking on some scotch tape that we replace every couple of weeks. Apparenly the apple models are frosted glass so it's very smooth, but other than that, there has to be a difference in the electronics because they are also very accurate.
My question: Are there any non-apple laptops with good trackpads?
