Friendly reminder that if you're a person who respects their individual privacy and freedom, there is no reason to be using the products created by the botnet that is the Google company. There is a plethora of options available for you to replace your Google apps that are lighter, faster and better in general, including respect for freedom and privacy.

>search engine?

>SearX, DuckDuckGo, Findx, StartPage

duckduck brings back the old school google, features are nice and all but the owner was a sellout

it'd be more trustable if it were AGPL but the license is Apache so you can't sue the owner for selling out

searx is germany, better in some ways but not the very best. ix/start a bit shit due to that stupid 4 clicks to turn off safe search settings

overall, search engines are meme. even if they don't track you, your ISP and cuckflare can. assuming you don't encrypt dns then you're asking for it.

>browser?

>Brave, IceCat

icecat is just firefox for debian. nothing privacy about it unless you tune it until usable enough

brave is just another snowden hype meme

>email?

>Self Host, cock.li, Proton Mail, Hotmail (Still Botnet)

proton mail is okay but iirc got sold to some chink like mega

others are botnet and cockli isn't reliable. self host uptime relies on you and the recepient if they also self host though this is okay

i'd use openmailbox though not for shit as being activist and against certain gov

better sign shit with gpg

>cloud storage?

>Syncthing, ownCloud, Nextcloud

most are hosted on privacy conscious countries

nextcloud is my pick as it is AGPL. the other two are AGPL too, probably

>hardware?

>Librem laptops by puri.sm

libreboot? maybe yes. last I checked it uses botnet everywhere and is just another snowden hype

>app store?

>F-Droid, Yalp for Play Store front end

both are good although f-droid's UI became shit. did they bring back the old UI? android is meme though. it is shit in many ways and terribly too much viruses I could even write one by reading a few CVEs.

>YouTube?

>Vimeo

just another better clone. not AGPL

userbase > features.

>SMS/Hangouts?

>XMPP, Signal, [Wire](https://wire.com/en/)

who uses sms? bands are botnet

>calendar?

>Nextcloud, ownCloud, RadiCAL

why even? though it's nice you listed them. calendar is much worse than weather app in blowing away 9000 points of opsec

you're asking for it then you might as well just go full-blown botnetsec

>icecat is just firefox for debian. nothing privacy about it unless you tune it until usable enough

E N D T H I S M E M E

Icecat is NOT the debian firefox fork.

I repeat. NOT NOT NOT NOT The Debian thing!

That was Iceweasel. Icecat is run by the GNU project, and provides several very real changes to Mozilla's browser.

Let's take the 2 minutes necessary to look this up, shall we?

>Important differences between Mozilla's Firefox and GNU IceCat is that IceCat has a focus on freedom and privacy (see settings.js for details).

>EME is not implemented: Whereas Firefox are being created such that they support Digital Restrictions Management (DRM) systems through their implementation of the Encrypted Media Extension (EME), GNU IceCat doesn't include an EME implementation as it opposes efforts to popularize and ease the dissemination of DRM technology.

>IceCat is configured with: WebRTC disabled

>Telemetry is disabled.

>Inbuilt add-ons

>Unlike Firefox ESR, IceCat comes pre-installed with add-ons. They are:

>GNU LibreJS used to block non-free JavaScript.

>LibreJS add-ons to run a few popular websites without running non-free code

>SpyBlock (Adblock Plus fork) to block privacy trackers.

>HTTPS Everywhere to get redirected to HTTPS when possible.

>HTML5 Video Everywhere! to replace proprietary video players with Firefox native video player.

>History

>GNU IceCat was formerly known as GNU IceWeasel but changed its name in 2008 to avoid confusion with Debian IceWeasel (who was rebranded back to Firefox in 2017)

So let's recap:

GNU wanted to make a fork because they wanted to make it a secure and private browser.

Debian wanted to make a fork because fuck knows why.

There was a bit of confusion because they both wanted to call it Iceweasel.

GNU agreed to call theirs Icecat.

So now there are 3 browsers: Firefox, Debian Iceweasel, and GNU Icecat.

Debian gave up Iceweasel last year.

So now there's 2 browsers: Firefox and Icecat.

GOT IT!?!?!!

We must de-meme "Google it" for web searches from normies' lexicon. The replacement language is simply "search it". Leave Google as nothing more than the widely recognized word for nigger that it is.

It'll never be viable. Even there were a sufficiently large and sufficiently active network, imagine trying to teach a normie how to add yacy as a service on startup. Especially on an operating system that's not Unix like.
