Hello /tech/,

I recently got an idea while thinking of the many things I do now at my corp job that would have blown my mind back in my newbie years. I thought "setting up and using a large network would have been a hell of a learning tool".

That's when it hit me: I don't think I've ever seen a how to, tutorial, or course on how to set up IT infrastructure from scratch. Something semi-realistic like "You must now setup a school district in the boonies using nothing but FOSS because you're all poor" or "You've opened your first call center to rake in all that sweet debt money. Here's where you start"

Is there such a thing out there? And if not, how can I get started around making a course like it for the children?

It sounds like a resource management video game that actually would have applications teaching people about real world IT. Maybe the best place to start by thinking of it in the context of making a video game, even though it has the "teaching tool" label, since you are basically making an educational video game for children.

Is it that different than just a regular home network minus needing more switches / whatever to handle more computers?

I guess you might also need a firewall / on IDS because people on your network are idiots and might get infected. I guess making it so different sections of the network aren't exposed to each other might be useful too.
