I have a smallish 6-server VPN operation mostly located in the US that I sell to people abroad. It's worked like a charm so far, but now that NN is no more, what should I expect to happen?

I'm primarily worried about the price per TB of traffic wantonly going up, since I couldn't find anything in the lease contract about it.

>inb4 >renting American servers

I know I know, but I'm stuck with them for ~5 more months.

Also, can my VPS provider reassign my IPs to data centers abroad? My "VPN" service is quite low tech (I'm using vanilla Shadowsocks, not actual VPN software), so I can't really change the IPs my clients connect to. I don't mind buying more VPSs outside the US, but the IPs have to stay the same (tunneling traffic makes no sense, since I'd just pay double).

Probably nothing is going to happen. US NN rules were only in effect for a couple years and nothing crazy was going on before that.

>Also, can my VPS provider reassign my IPs to data centers abroad?

If you bought a block of IPs it might be possible, but it would be a big hassle for them so I wouldn't count on them doing that for you.

>outside the US

keep in mind that other countries may also not have net neutrality

I see. Thanks Anon.

I'll wait and see how it goes.

Keyword crazy. Most cases of ISPs not being neutral were resolved within a day or two.

Except when they weren't.

I don't know where you guys got the idea that they were being neutral. Facebook, wikipedia, and the rest of 'social media' spent the last 5 years destroying the developing world's economy with zero-rating, BT and T-Mobile have both been running tiered plans (which netflix pays them to do as it locks out their competition), etc.. It was all legal as the NN bill did the opposite of what you thought it did and gave them clear legal defense for various ways to manipulate the internet.

What the fuck are you talking about? There are atleast four different ISP's in america that have been fucking with competitor website speeds and dnscrypt/torrent traffic since a few years now for bad goys. Normalfags don't notice because they don't care.

So get another ISP or use a VPN.

Government wont save you.

 No.838186>>838198 >>838206

>>838184

There are 28 ISP's in america and that number is continueing to decrease as merges happen. Half of them are compromised and untrustworthy by default, four of them I have gotten to use are compromised by my personal witness to such. That leaves 10 ISP's across all of america. Considering most burgers only get 1-2 ISP's per area, that's a huge game of chance you are playing to get a ISP you can switch to that might not fuck you over.

>government won't save you

They will enforce local monopolies and won't let new lines be layed down though.

 No.838198

>>838186

there are differences in isp's however

some isp's provide services between different networks, like peering

but then there are isp's that provide services to end-consumers

those isp's providing to end-consumers have never been regulated by any net neutrality

>Considering most burgers only get 1-2 ISP's per area

I live in bumbfuck nowhere suburban burger land and I can get

>HFC from CableCo

>ADSL, T1 or $$FIBER$$ from the telco

>LTE from Sprint, VZN, ATT, TMO

>Piles of MVNO that resell the above

If you don't have at least those choices you should really consider moving near some sort of civilization if internet access is important to you.

>Half of them are compromised and untrustworthy by default.

You should be treating ALL ISPs as untrustworthy by default. Encrypt always.

>They will enforce local monopolies and won't let new lines be layed down though.

Local monopolies happen because your local government signs franchise agreement's or impose laws on the state level. And like I said: Government wont save you.It was this way before 2015 and NN did nothing about this.

what a dink

>LTE from

way to pay enterprise costs for consumer need internet access

All of the mobile stuff is irrelevant to NN, they were already prioritizing traffic however they wanted.

>All of the mobile stuff is irrelevant to NN

Exactly. The NN reddit freakout is fucking nothing.

Terry streams 24/7 in HD from the desert on his consumer AT&T lte cellphone plan.

NN wont make poorfag's ObamaPhone plans any better.

 No.838226>>838318

Does the NN repeal affect torfags too?

 No.838232

Time to embrace the New World, America.

Soon you'll discover a wonderful world of obfuscated shadowsocks with spoofed facebook or netflix headers to pass through DPI firewalls.

You'll probably have to start using a proxy

My ISP blocks Tor (I'm not a burger), so I have to set a SOCKS proxy plus my own Tor bridge for it to work.
