>If you disable Javascript (install Noscript), you'll find that things render a lot faster.
faster, but still very slow

>Firefox on an old 2008 Thinkpad just works on my end. You're probably running Windows.
You're probably a normie who opens 5 facebook tabs and 5 cat pictures tabs, then closes web browser and goes to party.

>But he can encode 2 videos at once while listening to music.
>The music will only stutter a little bit, the computer won't respond to any input
what is thread priority and process priority. Go to wikipedia learn some shit
music won't stutter even when encoding 10 videos at once, as encodings will be on lower priority that music playing.
>and rendering a ten minute video will take 2 hours.
what are presets. https://trac.ffmpeg.org/wiki/Encode/H.264
a preset that is two times faster will result in only 10-15% higher file size.
also, why would he need to encode videos in realtime? just put encoding job and use computer normally

>I don't get this "need" to encode videos, much less two at a time (and while listenting to music, no less). Is this chan invaded by a bunch of youtube e-celebs or something?
Yes, most people don't even need to encode videos. But some have to encode their personal videos made with smartphone or camera. However, for personal videos you don't need 4K resolution, you don't record 10 hours a day, and you don't need realtime encoding. You can encode them on old computer without problems, it will just take more time, or have bigger filesize, but who cares?
>Stuff I need to do: edit text files, compile small/medium programs, occasionally compile kernel & OS stuff (not including bloated junk like Firefox), use text-based network clients, use PDF/PS viewer, use simple image viewer, sometimes play non-HD videos or MP3 and such. All that works fine on any old Pentium-M laptop, and maybe even a Pentium II would work good enough.
Exactly. All the common tasks will work on 15 year old CPU. Except web browsing, but that's because of niggers in web development and browser development.

>I use cmus, and music has literally never stuttered on my computer. If I try the same thing I was describing there with GUI programs, then yeah I may have some of them breaking.
it doesn't matter if software is GUI or CLI. Music players use high priority thread for playing music so it won't stutter even if 100% cpu usage.

>Some people feel the need to have "the best" and will shit on anything that isn't. They have no sense of nuance, they only work on superlatives.
fucking goys, let's burn them in ovens
something like "the best" doesn't even exist. there is not any CPU that is the best for everything
>Whenever I need to do batch processing work, I keep a server computer that is also used for my permanent services (calendar, audio/visual services, file/data services).
Fine, but if police or jews get to your server they can steal data and see what you have on it. Or they could modify files and plant malware.

>You still have to open up a Javascript-friendly browser to complete the captcha
You don't need javascript for 8ch captcha. Any browser with text + image + POST should work. Could even try to open image in offline viewer.
