Nextcloud GmbH makes an open source self-hosting cloud software and you call it botnet.
Of course it has an enterprise version with enterprise features with shit no individual needs but they have to make money somehow.
However you could make a faster one by not using PHP but I doubt it would be better because you'd be lacking features since you don't have the manpower required.
