Are their prices, hardware and pro-privacy stance worth it?

Is Pop! OS another crappy Debian fork, or one of the good ones?

I want to get the Serval WS, and they're the only company with a laptop that powerful offering you the option for a fair 2-3 year payment plan.

It's not like I'm unfamiliar with these things, I'm just looking for the opinion of fellow tech junkies who clearly somehow pull out a better alternative every time one of these memes is mentioned.

Gave a good one...

Its not a super larp, mega-unusual machine engineered for uber privacy against (((thecorps)).

Its a regular laptop with Linux Installed, designed with off the shelf components not engineered by System 76 in a plastic case that looks pretty, and is a cool brand. Because they are a niche manufacturer, the prices are somewhat higher than standard OEMS - you could buy a machine and install linux on it yourself cheaper, and virtually notice no difference.

Buying System76 is more a political endorsement of Linux, and an economic commitment to support it.

I own a zareason server, and at one point, a system 76 laptop. I liked it. I overpaid.

Any alternate suggestions?

I don't think I found any other Serval WS on the internet besides a few Dellware, ASS-US and Loan-ovo Ultrafish nightmares.

It's a miracle these days to find a fat laptop that comes with dedicated, and not integrated hardware. I'm not here for those Slimbooks that break with the slightest jar, or those Thunderbird configured minimalist nightmares, nor the over saturated Neon Keyboards that make you look like you just bought the "Supreme" of Laptops. Not to mention the ability to customise it, and a dedicated payment method for select countries around the world.

And no, I don't want it for gaming if that's what you are thinking, just a Workstation that I can disassemble like a System Unit, and still carry it around to use on the fly.

I work with 5 Virtual Machines (2 Servers), Visual Studio and an entire Git Library I'm running out of room for.

In short, would you recommend System76, or do you have anything better that's not "mainstream".

It's based on Ubuntu and uses Gnome. So I suppose it's good after you install a non-horrible DE.

It's overpriced Sager hardware. You're really better off buying thinkpads, especially ones that can be librebooted if privacy and libreism is your top priority.

I'm open to new options, but your argument is null and void if you can't provide any.

Besides, Sager hardware is harder to order outside North America. That's where System76 excels at:

If you want the opinion of anons, a site that I know is run by them is https://laptopscribes.com/laptops, assuming part of the reason you want S76 is because they're fairly beefy laptops to boot.

That's a nice site, but I'm mainly looking for something that's not made by a mainstream company, and something that's pretty powerful for what it is, and it still manages to give you a fairly decent payment option. It's not so much as privacy concerns as it is all of the bloatware they try to push on their laptops next to Windows.

And an answer to your last bit:

>>1043401

I have plenty of reasons to own a big and beefy laptop, but mainly because I want a long-term portable solution that's not prone to breaking every 2 years for once.

I think System76 is actually nicer than Zareason. They make computers high end enough to meet your needs. They computers are not any more or less serviceable than a standard laptop. (Excluding BS like apple laptops, or MS Surface, or ultrabooks)

Pop os is based on ubuntu And my honest opinion about that is you ubuntu is OK if you're beginner and it comes with a lot of support However I don't care for the Amazon spyware that comes with it
