I have this dumb question.

I'm facing choices in the future, and one is me doing crypto, thus working as implementing cryto algorithm or doing R&D for companies.

But I feel that it's a bad idea: I'm very interested in hacking on my part time, and I feel that working in crypto will just fuck me up, since the government and everyone will know that "I know" computer security.

Is it a false fear, do you think that you're flagged when you work in the field, even as not a pentester but more R&D crypto? Or maybe are the opportunities far greater (since I'll be introduced in the world of security companies, the money etc...)?

Shoud a hacker work in computer security?

If it's against your principles, then know.

Are you an agorist by any chance?

Not at all. My question is more on the "focus" that it'll bring on you.

I don't care implementing algorithm for some random companies, seriously. I'll obviously never work for mil or government anything.

choose one

Choose neither, you are clearly too retarded for any job. Btw, the technical term os "script kiddie".

Chances are, they already know.

tf are you talking about. You are not going to learn a shit ton of technical information have no absolutely no one on the planet no about it, and even if you did, it wouldn't help you not get caught doing something illegal. People are caught because of the mountain of paper trail left in the commission of the crime, or poor opsec not because someones mom outed them as a computer expert.

Also, if you are skilled enough to work for the military or private industry as R&D, trying to commit low level cybercrime is retarded, specially if you live in US or Europe. There is no magical underground of "hackers" doing coolshit making millions. There are people who re-use off the shelf malware components pay per install, people who run bs websites that have you "install a plugin" to view content who sell the pay per install, people who "load test", tech support/IRS scams, and spam. There isn't a huge chunck of uberskilled hackers underground. Closest thing I can think of is Ulbrict Ross, and well you see how that ended - captured because of stack exchange questions.

Anyone with skill gets a legal job that pays a ton.

Kiddo, this isn't the right place to go for advice like this. Finish up school and then if you still have to ask, then the answer is no.

Actually, there is. But it's def not a coolshit scene.

If you means millions spamming or millions on tech support scams etc. sure. but thats not exactly what OP is talking about.
