>I have decided to become a small-buisness owner and make my own computer repair store
Okay, that's great--
>I wish to run this out of my own home.
Enjoy roaches and other bugs infesting your home.
So, TL;DR: I am a computer technician. I do your job for my living. Here are some things I've picked up over the years.
>Computers are filthy, physically
Computers are fucking filthy, because people are filthy. Imagine the stinkiest, nastiest, filthiest nigger in existence. This nigger smokes weed and cigarettes in front of his laptop and uses the keyboard for a plate for his fried chicken. It is covered in a thin film of grease, slime, and general disgustingness. You're pretty sure this nigger masturbates and aims it at the screen.
Now, ask yourself:
<Do I really want this in my home?
<Do I want to smell that stinking up my house? Have it touching my nice, clean tables?
>Computers are filthy, non-physically
Most of the shit you're going to get is going to be riddled with viruses and malware from porn. If you connect this to your home network, odds are good there's something on there that can and will scan your network for vulnerabilities and exploit them.
You're going to have to isolate your network at least.
>You have to interact with customers. Customer service is 75% of the job.
No one is going to mail some random dude their computer. If I cannot come to your house and punch you in the dick if you fuck me over, I will not do business with you. This applies to most people.
>Every software fix can be boiled down to two answers: format, cleanup.
If you enjoy doing the same shit day in, day out, go for it. Short version here is, if it looks easy, clean it up. If it looks like it'll take more than half an hour, format it. You'll save yourself time and the customer grief this way.
Protip: antivirus doesn't work. At all. None of it. No, not your fucking ccleaner, avast, malwarebytes, etc. None of that shit works. At all.
>Phones/tablets are not worth the investment.
Time, repair difficulty, price of parts, special tools, and training are all factors you have to consider here, weighed against the profit you're going to make.
Let's be real here, most phones these days cost around $100-$400, excluding apple. If your cost of repair is 1/4 of the price of a new phone, Bob's getting a new phone.
>warranty scams, every time
Never give more than a 30 day warranty on any labor.
EVER.
You will get scammed out of money if you do. These idiots will intentionally break shit to get more work out of you for free, unrelated shit.
Also, on all warranties, always CLEARLY STATE the thing/service to be warrantied and NEVER warranty virus cleanup/removal or a format. ALWAYS use a tool to extract internet history so you have a copy of their porn browsing history to slap them about the head with if they try to complain about how they have no idea how that virus got back on their computer and YOU must have put it there.
Example:
Warranty: hard drive, 2 yr. Labor for hdd install, 30 days.
Warranty: executable associations in registry, 30 days.
If the customer comes back with another problem, IT'S NOT UNDER WARRANTY.
You are a mechanic. If you work on the transmission, YOU DO NOT WARRANTY THE AIR CONDITIONER.
I do not recommend the job and am looking to move away from customer service myself.
