>new version of tribler allows a bunch of automatic bots to buy and operate tor exit nodes with bitcoin as needed

Is this a meme or actually good?

I've been wanting to swap to this from qbit as the idea of built-in DHT network to search that isn't reliant on websites is neat, but the tor aspect was the only thing that didn't look up to scratch for me.

Now my only question is how they are going to police how people use the bandwidth. I've heard they use some form of ratio to encourage seeding, but I'm not sure how it affects people who don't seed indefinitely.

https://github.com/Tribler/tribler

Anyone got any insights to offer on this?

Oh, apparently it's their own implementation of Tor, not the original network.

Also, the wikipedia page says it can recommend content after a dozen or so downloads, which sounds like botnet.

It's made for people who are too cheap to own a VPN, yet they don't want any Threats by the Copyright Trolls.

The only things you should never do is set it as an Exit Node, unless you live in Africa.

 No.1026978>>1026983 >>1027147

You can choose one of two options.

1. Buy VPN which is in a foreign country

2. Use Tribler if you don't have money

If you choose one of them, anyway, copyrighters can't find you.

But aside from the anonymity, is the decentralisation aspect of it good?

Why does it need to have Python 2 compatibility in 2019 if Python 2 is going to be officially ended in 2020?

In my opinion, it's good, but not great.

You can anonymise just about any torrent from an external magnet source, but the same people who made it will always warn you to use it at your own discretion.

It's only good for keeping your IP out of a messy Court Case (especially in Germany), but if someone from the US Government for example wants to hack you directly, it's likely not to work.

The good news is, Version 7 improved a whole lot more than you think, Version 6 was a buggy mess with a problem every other day.

Try it, just don't set it as an Exit Node unless you have a VPN as an extra layer.

Python 2 maintenance will end but that doesn't imply that Python 2 will stop working. All it means is that it won't be updated with bug fixes.

it's not Tor

3. use Whonix

4. Use Tails

Whonix is Tails, but much more polished and better maintained.

Where's the Appimage?

there are already no good reasons to stick to python 2, it's simply a worse variant of a good language

 No.1027277

if it hasn't moved off of python2 it probably means it relies on a bloated and terrible library that hasn't updated in forever that only works with python2.

why do you think so?

 No.1027448

>>1027308 Whonix can be installed only on virtual environments. But Tails is a native OS.
