Better off designing something, applying for a patent, and then sell the rights to produce said device to a company that can put it in stores.

Dunno, just tinker with stuff until you invent something. Maybe you will be the next genius who will lead the scientific advancement towards wormholes or something.

You probably can't. Most things that don't already exist would need a big team of people behind it to design it, or at least a multiple year investment on your part and you researching a market niche and building a business plan to even consider whether it wouldn't be a financial suicide to invest in your idea. Nobody is going to do this initial work for you for free.

Not to mention that even if you design something, who will do the marketing? Who will put in the initial investment? Who will make a deal with a factory? How will deal with the intellectual property stuff, and write the contracts to make sure you don't get screwed? How will you compete with the cheap Chinese clones that will undoubtedly appear if your product is successful?

If you actually read my post, I never doubted your technical skills, but that doesn't mean there's a high probability that you can turn those skills into a business and be profitable enough to get out of your self confessed employee status.
