Can you corrupt digital files by physical damage? Like dropping a phone with an SD card would fuck up the data on it?

If the card was bent or there was an electrostatic discharge it could mess something up. It's nothing like a platter based HDD where you can wipe the whole fucking thing by dropping it. You might be able to recover data using photorec.
