The original idea of Star Wars were more "hardcore" actually, but some friends and workers asked to George Lucas to be more "family friendly".

And he changed stuff, like Jedi (Order & Severe Justice to "Good and Peace" now) and Sith (Chaos & Disgusting Injustice to "Bad and Violence" now).
