What other series are there out there like Star wars worth checking out? I can't be bothered with Disney's shit any more but I like having a functional sci fi series to get cozy with.

Tolkein's Silmarillian is the only thing I can think of that gives the Star Wars EU a run for its money.

I know what you mean, OP. I wish there was something as big and deep as SW. Something with a lot of fans to talk to. A lot of spin-off stuff to explore. And a lot of collectible crap to keep my wallet empty. *sigh* But there's nothing even remotely close to SW that matches all three of those criteria.
