/sw/ is great for different reasons, but quite honestly there’s no way you can ignore what Disney has done. They invalidated the old canon and put in place dianoga lesbian baptists.
It’s very different situations. Star Wars was built like a monarchy with a kindly old King who had decrees about what was and wasn’t canon. It was his toy, his decisions, and then Banking Clan got it and made it a feminist shitbox.
Star Trek was created by a carnival barker Jew and was successful because it was ripped away from him and given to guys like Nicholas Meyer. It’s changed hands many times and all novels are simply non-canon, so any weird story has little impact. Ignoring shitty shows, episodes, or movies is a celebrated star trek tradition, because with Star Trek it can always be fixed the next time around since the canon is so loose.
They both share a calamity in JJ Abrams. And the great tragedy is we will never see Marc Alaimo play Thrawn.

I can agree to that. As someone else mentioned in another thread, Vong feel more like D&D or Star Trek rejects. However there is great potential to how they could've been handled and their culture, tech and backstory is pretty interesting, except for the whole self-mutilation thing, but that last one may just be me. The Vong's advanced terraforming tech could've even been used on New Alderaan to give it the same fauna and ecosystem that once existed on old Alderaan for the sake of restoring/preserving its lost ecosystem and fauna, as well as serving as a proper new home for Alderaan survivors.

Star Wars was a million disjointed ideas all around the central concept of doing a flash-gordon esque sci fi epic. Lucas would show people his ideas and they’d tell him they were shit so he’d redraft over and over again.
Original drafts had quite a few dune references in them which survive in ANH (spice mines, moisture farms, Sand People, Anakin was a Navigator on a Spice freighter, clones (gholas), etc). There were more, and initially royal houses were more important. The Emperor was also more of a figurehead for a military-industrial complex of Moffs and Governors.
So George went back to those old ideas (as did Rian and other hacks) when he made the prequels, reusing names or referencing things like midi-chlorians he had thought up earlier. But it was never a unified lore (Tolkien’s lore, although considerably more rigorous, wasn’t really all that unified either, as there were many things and details he changed throughout his life).
