It probably doesn't focus group well. Though it surprised me at first, every normie forum I've ever seen an idea of a Sith spinoff movie or game proposed meets a chorus of "That would be turrible! They're good because of their limited screen presence!"
Fairly, the trouble with doing a Vader game rested in nobody knowing how to make a whole game feel powerful and fun without clashing with the image of him as a wooden kendo champ in the OT. The new canon stuff has taken huge liberties with that, though, so it's not really an excuse anymore.

The DL-44 isn't unique even within the OT.
Also the early supplemental material for ANH wasn't even sure which control the safety was. On a Broomhandle Mauser it's the lever on the back. There's no clear way to load a DL-44 though as the mag release is either non-existent (props based on stripper clip fed Mausers) or covered (props based on mag fed Mausers) depending on which prop you look at, while the scope blocks the stripper clip feed (The OT prop was probably single loaded).

IIRC the DL-44 is an old imperial blaster , therefore since he went to "the academy" it was probably something he kept from there or something he bought or picked up after. Han's supposedly has more "upgrades" compared to a standard DL-44, however its not really apparent in the OT.
