The quite possibly dumbest thing that annoys me to no end is how military technology in The Republic compared to the Empire is huge. Now I know people will be like "oh its different the Empire did not have to fight an intergalactic war!".

Now ill give you that the Empire changed its starcraft policy to be something like the CIS with more cheap fighters swarming the enemy. However I still stand by the fact something like the AT-TE or the Juggernaut were superior when compared to the AT-AT. The Empire also dropping the Gunship was a dumb idea as well.

Well, the EU explain that most of Clone Wars era tech was relegated to backward planets. The whole Tarkin doctrine of fear inaugurated an era of impractical giant weaponry, like the DS, giant walkers, etc, etc.

Also Palpatine was a miser, maybe due fear of uprisings, speculating here. That's why the bulk of its troops were given cheap gear and equipment. But then again we had expensive shit like gunboats, tie phantoms, darktroopers, tie defenders…

Has there ever been a justification for the extreme vulnerability of the AT-RT's driver? At least speeder bikes are fast enough to compensate for the lack of protection. The ewoks would have had an even easier victory if AT-RTs had been used on Endor instead of AT-STs.

Why do people hate on the AT-AT so much? It was immune to most blaster fire and surprisingly good at shooting down fast-moving aerial craft. The Empire only lost two of them fighting the Rebellion headquarters, and one of those was brought down by a Force-user and the second required one of the ace pilots to perform.

Possible it was just a patrol vehicle and light recog.

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/All_Terrain_Recon_Transport/Legends

>Its open cockpit design made the driver especially vulnerable to sniper fire, a notable flaw, but low costs and good visibility of the battlefield made up for this shortcoming. While other walkers like the AT-PT eliminated the flaw of the exposed driver position, the AT-PT was slower, and this made the AT-RT competitive with the former as it was capable of tremendous speeds and could also leap quite a distance thanks to its light construction .[10][1]

>they were also used in the role of civilian (police or militia) support. Commonly, these walkers operated as picket and pathfinder units.

A recorrent theme… cheapeness. It was cheap and fast.

Luke didn't used the Force, just a cable to climb and a lightsaber, that is a cutting tool, and some grenades,

>Why do people hate on the AT-AT so much?

It just looks really impractical, especially compared to the AT-TE it supposedly replaced. Being up on stilts means it will be easier to tip over, the legs are a slow and inefficient way of moving (although they look damn cool), and have no advantage over wheels and tracks unless you're covering extremely difficult terrain. Even then, the legs are still far longer than they need to be to step over most debris that they may encounter. They turn slowly and have all of their weapons on the front, so they're easy to flank, and once they are flanked all they can do is hope and pray the armor is thick enough. The AT-TE in contrast is nice and low to the ground, with legs that can still help it navigate rubble and other difficult terrain without making it an easy target. It's weaponry on all sides, and the main gun can rotate as well. I would also argue that they look more formidable than AT-ATs despite the height difference.

Military gear is expensive and the Empire chose for galactic dominance with massive star-destroyers and moon sized weaponry where the Republic had a multi-planetary defensive role.

>why do Clone Wars holograms have such good resolution, but OT holograms look like shit?

>why are OT computers just beeping lights, while Clone Wars computers had actual displays?

The real answer is that these movies were made at different times when people had differing ideas of what the future would look like based on the contemporary technologies.

AT-RTs were pretty fast they could bum rush armor positions with ease

AT-RTs were said to mimic actual animals of sorts but with guns attached to them.

What if the technology of the Clone Wars were to represent the last generation of technology to be predominantly adapted from Rakatan technology, and if the technology of the GCW were to represent the first generation of technology to predominantly be engineered from scratch?

 No.12955

>>12934

(Note: I know nothing about the history of technology in Star Wars beyond the heavy recycling of the old technology of the Rakatan Empire. If anyone's got a redpill handy on the subject, that'd be appreciated.)
