 No.1167

Let's have a thread about planets. I've always loved how varied they are. In reality we've discovered some truly bizarre planets.

What are your favorite worlds in the Star Wars universe?

Pic related. It's Geonosis. I'm not a huge fan of desert planets though except Arrakis

 No.1171

A vast majority of planets are probably uninhabited by intelligent species for various reasons. How many of them get mined for resources? How many have primitive microbial life? Are those planets protected?

 No.1174

>>1171

There are planets designated "Legacy Worlds" where ecological exploitation is limited by specific and strict regulations if not forbidden altogether.

The Galactic Empire started revoking this status to many planets to discretely plunder them for components needed to build the Death Star strengthen the navy in anticipation of near-future conquests.

Strengthen their numbers. Before Endor, in either continuity, the Empire's preferred strategy appeared to sheer overwhelming force of numbers and munitions.

My favorite is definitely Endor, it's just a really pleasant location to look at.

It's ironic that despite all the amazing technology in Star Wars the planet I like the most has next to none of it. In fact you could say it borders on being a kind of fantasy setting given how remote and untouched it's natural vistas are.

 No.1194

Coruscant. What else. It was soothing to see it the prequel, specially at the first scenes of AoTC.

 No.1199

Tbh if I was in the Star Wars verse after becoming a smuggler, a bounty hunter and the strongest and edgiest sith lord in the galaxy I would totally settle down on Naboo with my waifu and have plenty of kids. Something about the planet seemed really comfy and ideal to me

May need a regime change though, Padme stopping the Gungan Genocide was a mistake

 No.1205

>>1194

I agree. I wish we could see more of the city. I bet it sucks to live in most of the planet, but if you're wealthy I bet it is great.

The chase scene from episode II is among my favorites

In TSL, Malachor V's (and to a lesser extent, Dromund Kaas in Mysteries of the Sith) eldritch and evil atmosphere was always despairing and memorable to me.

Dantooine also deserves a mention for provoking the antithetical feeling- it's a really cozy and peaceful place.

Nar Shaddaa.

I like how many different takes there are on this planet. I especially like the versions that have a slight cyberpunk vibe to them. Dark Empire's original depiction is unmatched though. Since the planet is (was?) divided into different sectors, they're probably all equally valid.

I think unhabitable planets are more interesting. You can have many more varieties and some truly bizarre worlds. However what we think of as habitable could be completely different from reality. Maybe there are worlds out there that are perfect for other lifeforms but absolutely lethal to us.

Fuck I want to explore space

 No.1373

My vote goes for Tatooine. There's something about the backwater atmosphere and the toil of a hard day's work. It's like Naboo in the fact that there's untouched nature and such, but with suffering and slavery instead of frolicking.

Necro bump for necro board.

I dunno how the fuck they did it, but the KotOR games had the comfiest planets I think I've ever experienced in Star Wars media (even planets which had been shown before, like Nar Shaddaa). I could totally see myself living on the likes of Taris, Manaan, Onderon, or Dantooine. Fuck, even the more rural planets (Dxun, Kashyyyk, Tatooine, Lehon) were so well-done, they had this certain charm to them. I dunno maybe it's the nostalgia but holy hell, so good.

Outside of that, Endor is pretty nice as well, as previously mentioned. Bespin, too, cozy and futuristic, mm-hmm! And Coruscant (would have loved to see this in KotOR 2 as an actual planet), can't forget that. By the way, can someone more experienced than me explain what life on said planet (Coruscant) was like for an average civilian during Imperial reign? Was it about the same as before? Worse? The only EU media (read: games) I've consumed make it seem like a completely militarized planet where the Emperor also had a piece for himself, but I know this wasn't the entire planet.

>By the way, can someone more experienced than me explain what life on said planet (Coruscant) was like for an average civilian during Imperial reign?

Apparently about the same overall, still had the poor in undercities and the elites living in luxury above. Coruscant wasn't really that militarized compared to something like Anaxes, Balmorra, Byss, Carida or Corellia etc in terms of output. More so it was heavily defended and it's purpose was more ceremonial as a planet.

 No.2126

Byss is the best planet

Dromund Kaas was a very enjoyable planet imo

Ord Mantel, despite my worries considering I'm allergic to the tetanus vaccine, is my favorite. It's a massive Junkyard that's more than likely full of adventure and more importantly VALUABLE SCRAP.

I don't know why, but I have a soft spot for Dromund Kaas. I think it might be because of the perpetual rains and the mystery of the city with how everything is very… structured. The people are free to do anything that any other person is able to do on other city planets while Sith perform magic tricks in the streets.

I also would like to live in seclusion on Tython. It would be like being innawoods but for an entire planet.

I'm kinda surprised we never got a cyberpunk Star Wars story/game tbh.

You've got all the tropes already existing in the SW universe: cybernetic limbs, cyborgs, (evil) mega coroporations, planet-wide cities with a massive black market and criminal underworld, night clubs, neon signs, alien babes, laserweapons, etc., etc.

I always had a soft spot for Corellia. It seemed like a perfect combination of nature and urban landscape, despite being an older world.

I know it was always over-hyped, but Kashyyyk also always appealed to me in all of its renditions. Lots of people think of Kashyyyk for its giant trees without realizing that said trees are a parasitic organism introduced to the planet for the purpose of lumber production, and that the shadowlands were pretty much a fucking cycle of death and despair where the Sith released their alchemical pets.
