I was reading the thread on clones and it got me to wondering about this guy, resurrected Spock from Star Trek 3. He seems to be a bit of a dumbass, walking into snowland with no clothes, but clearly has a personality of his own and interacts socially with others.

The question is - did downloading old Spock's personality into this new body destroy the person that originally owned it? If it did, you're not allowed to kill your own clone, but erasing their personality and stealing their body is ok?

The answer to all questions is that it's okay if the Federation does it

Perhaps, being Spock, his personality was the personality of Spock, and so it was less an overwriting than an integration of two fundamentally identical things.

but then again, is a clone with different memories and life experiences the same person as the original?

No, I'd have to say it isn't. I guess at best you'd have the spirit of original Spock combining with the experiences of the clone Spock.

I guess having his bullied childhood overwritten with memories of banging Saavik would account for his mellowing in his later years.

>is a clone with different memories and life experiences the same person as the original?

All philosophical questions can be answered only by clearly defining the terms involved, and trivially so.

I can't believe I just realized this, but…

>Spock's Genesis-regenerated body more animal than man

>In the space of hours grows from 14, then 21, then 28, then 35, then…

>ultimate blue balls at 14

>can't understand

>pain!

>bipedal creature wearing red and black fur approaches, offering two of its fingers and touching them to Spock's

>animalistic Spock body experiences marathon sessions of rutting with bipedal creature as it grows through the decades

>Finally, at 77, ka is restored to body

>Spock asks his protege why his penis is bent slightly to the left

>"I do not know, Spock," says Saavik, as she gestures to McCoy for more painkillers

>"Blast! We'll have to change these pelvic bandages, again! Nurse Chapel! Come give me a hand getting her out of traction!"

Saavik would have maybe an hour's rest or so between psycho-shags, as Spock's completely-devoid-of-logic-and-conscience body would have been constantly on the pull. It's a pity there wasn't a Klingon woman handy.

>did downloading old Spock's personality into this new body destroy the person that originally owned it?

1. It's not a new body. The Genesis Bomb revitalized it like it did to the rest of the planet.

2. The person that originally owned it was Spock. Spock was reclaiming what was his

3. The nascent personality was a bestial infant in constant pain from rapid growth and pon farr. It was probably crazy and overwriting it would have been a mercy.

Not sure if he's actually a clone, because Spock's body was fired down to Genesis after the initial matrix formed and the matter was reorganized. That means Spock's body was regenerated, not broken down then recloned, so it was more like a reverse aging process that removed the radiation and brought him back to life, since his brain reverted back to a younger state, he probably lost most of his memories in the process, but the deeper structure and synaptic connections that have kept the same pattern, things not determined by genetics entirely, but numerous factors and mental development patterns. So it was still Spock's brain, which probably made merging the copy of psyche embedded in Bones more likely to be successful than actually trying to transfer it to a straight up clone of Spock.
