Anons, I have a powerful thirst for more Star Trek and I want to know if pic related is worth playing. Does anyone here play it?

I've never played an mmo, so I'm not picky on the finer points and I'm fulling expecting the plots to be stupid, but all I want is to make a qt andorian waifu to dress up and my own space ship to sail around in. The girls in the concept art look cute.

It's okay if you are a trek fan, nothing too amazing though, I only play it during events because I got an LTS years ago which has already paid for itself through funmoney.

Still no playable Cardassians.

They also shunned the Fed-Klingon War in the game and made peace all of the sudden. There was actually a tale of this with a bunch of KDF Players refusing to admit the war was over and waging private war against the Federation, including boarding Earth Space Dock and killing everyone aboard. Others climbing the mountains of Nukara just to kill Feds. Another managed to bring the Borg nanite infection to DS9 and get that station assimilated.

The whole story also is fucked up with KDF actually being the only faction who are right all the time, even tried to warn the Federation about the shit going on and got attacked for it. The Feds also in their arrogance commit war crimes and atrocities all the time, including destroying a Romulan Medical Facility. Literally everything that went wrong in STO would not have happened if the Feds would have just listened to the Klingons.

There was some stuff on /vg/ posted about some oldfag KDF /v/ fleet guys coming on, discovering that /stog/ was full of newfags and ledditors and basically cause a civil war on the /stog/. Supposedly /v/ had a fleet before the Exodus and game went to complete shit that was KDF only and pretty dominating at the game, like the Warbros were on Warframe. There was also a tale of them going full Sieg Zeon on the Federation and even had a player who was a literal Red Comet.

Fed fleet Vidya Trek is fairly active during events and deep in the fleet holdings with max in almost everything save for the starbase itself, House of Vid'ya is fucking dead save for myself and maybe a couple stragglers. 99% of the KDF players have been gone for a long time and a bunch of skill rebalances have probably fucked over whatever build that guy used to have. Why I remember now why the old /v/idya pre exodus faction played KDF exclusively.

I finally had a block of free time big enough to download STO and get to playin'. But despite all the warnings from you guys that Klingons were the superior faction, the lure of a qt Andorian waifu proved too much for a creature of weakness such as myself and I picked the Federation.

The tutorial started with my character graduating Star Trek highschool, hitting the bar, and reporting for duty as the first officer on a training cruise. It was a short trip from Earth to Vulcan, the heart of the Federation. My ship should have been as safe as a babe in its mother's arms but, in a move I think might be a subtle aknowledgement by the devs that the Federation sucks, it got ambushed by Klingons two minutes out.

My drunk crew had to fend off Klingon boarding parties. This was fun.

The captain, who's terrible judgement thought I'd make a good first officer despite not knowing how to fire a phaser the day I graduated from the Academy, was killed and now I'm the captain.

A real ship comes along and upon hearing that I'm a drunk highschool grad just accepts that I'm the legit captain and wants to go on adventures - I HAVE A GAPING FUCKING HOLE IN MY SHIP, I'M AN UNQUALIFIED IDIOT, MY CREW IS DRUNK, BUT WHO CARES, THE USS KHITOMER ISN'T ANSWERING THE PHONE LET'S GO. My god, the Federation sucks.

On the plus side, I spent 45 minutes making my Andorian waifu, so she's pretty cute and I got a free Khan outfit I don't know how to access (I hope it's the good Khan). But alas, I don't see a bright future for the tipsy incompetents of the USS Current Year.

They were kind of forgotten about and sort of half assed. Think they were meant to be important part of Voyager but again they kind of did fuck all with that. The more cynical part of me wonders if it was just too easy to make the Maquis a sympathetic, believable antagonist faction and they had to half-ass the whole thing so the audience wouldn't get redpilled on the Federation.

It was more a case of they had an idea but never fleshed it out, then got distracted by other things i.e. the Dominion that they pretty much forgot the Maquis existed. The Maquis supposedly were developed for Star Trek Voyager, not DS9 and we all know how important the Maquis arc was in Voyager.

034834 No.1170

>>1169

>got wiped out

Martyred. If the Federation pours too much aid into reconstructing Cardassia (in their own image) some bumfuck colonies that got hit bad during the war might be pissed that they don't get first crack at those resources.

d600da No.1171

The Maquis are the single most destructive thing ever to happen to the Federation and the writers never got quite series the issue actually was. Essentially they were separatists, they left the Federation. That alone is more devastating to a faction than any foreign aggressor as while your people may be united against a foreign invader if it is pulling apart from within that is a sign your whole Empire is about to collapse or face civil war. The Maquis was meant to divide the loyalties of Starfleet and at one point the Starfleet was at odds with the Federation as a whole how to deal with them.

The Maquis may have been wiped out, but you will be damned certain the families and friends of those who had fallen will not forget nor forgive those who let them perish and that list of targets does include the Federation. That is going to leave a generation if not generations with bitter resentment towards the Federation especially around that region of space who will see them as tyrants rather than acknowledge them as their government. You would be naive to think otherwise.

Anyone writer worth their salt would have recognized this yet everyone fails to grasp the scope of the situation. A post Dominion War scenario would have what was formerly the DMZ steadily increasing it's anti-Federation sentiment to the point they would rise up and declare independence. It would become a rebellious state that the Starfleet would have to put down with force and that would literally spark the Federation Civil War as no doubt Captains with friends/family in that region along with sympathizers would refuse to follow orders and probably form a militia to combat Federation forces. It would gain even greater scale when the Starfleet faces a morale dilemma since if they follow orders they are allowing the Federation to become essentially a Tyrannical Empire but if they don't then it shatters the very fabric and foundation of the Federation. As soon as the Federation gave those colonies over to the Cardassians not only did they fail their people but it sparked the seeds of an unavoidable Civil War.

tl;dr version: The Maquis should have lead to the Federation's equivalent of the US Civil War.

5a6b2e No.1172

I think the idea behind the show though is that human curiosity is what keeps the Federation cutting-edge; that a few casualties here and there are worth the knowledge gained from delving into the unknown. But the Maquis only happened because the Federation were too cucked to enforce fucking treaties. The best part was that it wasnt anti human, or anti Vulcan. It was anti every Feddie citizen. All of them, without prejudice. All because they refused to call out the Cardassians on there bullshit.

The Maquis never would have even considered open revolt had Starfleet did its fucking job.

Then again, the Maquis have so many similarities to Colonial Americans that it sent chills down the writers spine, so they cucked out and had them slaughtered. I have the ulitmate pro-tip for you that I pass on to all new fathers: change the diapers.

<"Well no shit, sherlock."

Ha ha, no, seriously, be the diaper guy. Don't just do it when the wife's ready to drown the little darlings in the bathtub, actually proactively volunteer to do it. This has two net benefits:

1. The wife will take literal bullets for you until the kid is finally using the toilet

2. Many babies disdain the plebs that are their fathers (screaming like banshees and not wanting you near them) because they have a bond with mum from the womb, the boobs, and the cleaning. You can't do anything about the first two, but you can usurp your way into the third spot by being the young master's Servant of the Babywipes.

I first noticed that the little monkey actually smiled at me after I changed his diaper, one time. So I decided to experiment. "No, dear, I'll handle it. You just sit there and milk the labor some more." The wife was happy, and bragging to her friends about what a thoughtful husband I was. This made her less likely to play the labor trump card. It didn't stop, mind you, but it greatly increased. The kid, meanwhile, came to associate me with "bum no feel squishy-burning." He was actually happy to see me after the associations were made. Plus, the post-change playing didn't hurt, either. Letting him grab my nose, me making silly faces or playing peekaboo, etc., also made for an excellent bonding experience.

Trust me. It works on boys and girls.

You can make a Cardassian as the character editor has all the parts required for it, but your character profile will just read Alien as there isn't a racial trait preset for Cardassians right now.

It's rumored that next year with the Dominion update that Cardassians may finally get a racial trait preset or possibly their own faction a la Romulan Republic.

When I was testing out the game that's what I did. Turned out fairly close, she looked cute enough. I wanted to play long enough to get a Cardassian ship but the game was so boring and pay-to-win/unlock I gave up after like 60 to 70 hours. Who the fuck would make a Star Trek game without a Cardassian? Or even Dominion faction? Like who the fuck wants to play the """Romulan Republic"""" at all? Should've died after they released it and everyone figured out they rushed an unfinished Klingon campaign.

I just wanted to fight Klingon's for the Union to regain territory lost before the Dominion showed up.

It's Starfleet Online Goyim, the Federation are the Gud Goys! Now buy some Lobi Crystals from the Quark Emporium and some keys for Lock Boxes!

The lore raped the Romulans and Cardassians from being a true imposing force, Dominion should have been their own faction but keeping to themselves. Ferengi Merchants should have been a playable faction but the game is too Federation orientated to be of use for that

Lets hope they include Jem'Hadar, Vorta and breen. They already have all the assets for all 4 races, minus their new uniforms.

The main problem though is, what to do for ships. All their iconic ships are already lockbox and lobi ships.

So while I hope this is the case, realisticly they are just going to add cardies to the number of races you can play as in the other factions, rather than make them their own, in the Romulan style. Less work that way, and craptic always seem to favor the lazy approach. Just look at how the iconian war played out.

The game is often played by corporate businessmen from work. There is real money to be made in EVE. even if it wasn't a naval term and was invented by the show, it's used consistently in Star Trek to refer to the faggot steering. I think there's a growing percentage of Trek "fans" whose entire experience with the show is through Netflix as background noise while they're doing other shit. So, by the end they're familiar with the principle characters and settings, and they consider themselves fans, but really they were only half paying attention except for maybe a few meme episodes like Best of Both Worlds and Yesterday's Enterprise.

I honestly think shit like this is how we end up with STD. On larger ships a conn officer controls a section of three to five people - sensor operators, a navigator, an engine man, and a communications officer plus his men. isnt the game just P2W trash?

176c52 No.14410

>>14409

depends, you can call it P2W but pvp is largely dead, atleast with the main playerbase, there's groups that organize to do it, so your not really paying to win against anything, and there wouldn't be any advantage to winning in pvp even if you did. All the end-game content is grinding pve with groups of 5-10. Microtransactions are built into the game but you can generate the in-game currency easy enough.

There's like 300 hours of single player content though, and they got a lot of the actors to do voiceovers. Spock (original), martok, worf, la'forge, i think kira's in there or it's a voiceactor trying to be.

I've been having a good time with it since I started but I wouldn't ever spend money. There's hardcore goyim that spend thousands on these fucking lockboxes they have trying to get obscure ships. You can get sucked into gambling pretty hard in this game.

The end-game isn't great, it would be dead if it wasn't star trek.

Nobody RPs in zone anymore, now it's just Gorn puns, politicizing assholes, people telling aforementioned assholes to shut it and the odd newbie query.

That said, joining in with some of the RP fleets is some of the most fun to be had from the game in between new updates or events.

>one side actually gives a shit about learning to play and the other side are casual scum?

Klingons had all the best players who actually learned to git gud. Feds were actually OP as hell but were filled with crybabies who couldn't git gud. The best example of this was doing the STF ground missions where Klingon players could blitz through Elite missions in 5 minutes completeling all secondary objectives while Feds would blunder through them taking half an hour fucking everything up they possibly could.
