What do you guys think is the single most well known Star Trek episode to the mainstream?

Out of all series, if you asked a random person who has never seen star trek to list one episode from the series - what do you think they would say?

>What do you guys think is the single most well known Star Trek episode to the mainstream?

None. They don't know episodes. They know scenes from episodes. If you want to know what scenes they know best just look to Jar Jar Abrams' trek to find out because that movie is just references that the casual observer will understand. What mainstream casual fucks understand:

>Tribbles? I remember Kirk in a pile of wookie hairballs, is that them?

>Green dancing girl?

>The starship Enterprise, warp speed right?

>Black girl with ear thing? Kirk kissed her right?

>Gay asian dude has a sword didn't he?

>Scottish guy I dunno comic relief?

>Mr Spack live long and be prosperous, he feels nothing right? Sheldon cosplayed him in the Big Bang Theory that one time

>(whispered scream) Khaaaaaaan!

>Spock screams 'i'll kill you cocksucking fucker i'll rape your corpse you sack of fucking cunt feces' as he viciously beats a person on top of moving car, right?

>They all had coloured uniforms? The red ones die a lot I think?

>Kirk just fucks people and ignores all the orders he's given, right?

>It was boring. Needs more action.

One of those is a joke but the others are accurate.

Fuck the mainstream.

It's disgusting how correct you are. Really, it's the same exact thing with the new Star Wars movies and the original trilogy. It's the exact same thing with just about every franchise. Movies have become nothing more than self-referential parodies.

As for the OP, if we change that from "random person" to "casual Trek watcher" (as in, not like we who have seen every episode several times), then it becomes possible. I'd have to say Best of Both Worlds. That's the one that will stick in someone's mind even if they've only watched TNG on occasion. IIRC, it even won some awards and shit.

Does anyone have the image of that Top 10 fan poll (from netflix?) that shows like 6 of them being Voyager episodes and not a single TOS episode? Voyager is what the casual Trek watch would know most of.

Okay, you are absolutely correct.

I'd like to rephrase the original question then:

>What do you guys think is the single most well known scene or plot from Star Trek?

As applied to both people who have never seen star trek, and people who have just casually watched a handful of out-of-context episodes.

I hate how right you are. I really fucking do. Could apply same logic for each series though think only TOS and TNG are mainstream. Nobody unless they are a fan knows shit about DS9, VOY or ENT.

>What do you guys think is the single most well known scene or plot from Star Trek?

I guess most people would recognise Kirk fighting the Gorn captain only because it looks silly nowadays. And it's not a specific scene, but the overall look of the Enterprise bridge would be pretty familiar as well (for both TOS and TNG). Kirk smooching space babes will be a popular answer, ofc, but no one will know anything beyond that. With the TOS movies, they'll know that Kirk will yell KHAAAN loudly while fighting against some guy and also they save whales at some point.

No one will recognise anything from VOY, ENT or DS9. Well, the casual viewer might remember that hot chick from Voyager, but that's about it. Your average person who has never seen Trek will not even know these three shows exist. With TNG, people at least know Stewart as the captain and MIGHT remember Worf, Data or Riker.

I think the average person would recognize Voyager more than you give credit for. As far as I've seen it's the one that airs most often on non-scifi channels; my local station used to show it every evening. It wouldn't be unreasonable for someone who never deliberately watches Trek to end up with an episode on, and keep watching because they can't be bothered changing the channel.

If nothing else I'd bet people remember it had a female captain.

>Voyager is what the casual Trek watcher would know most of

Exactly That's because you have to be older than 35 to have not been a little kid when TNG and DS9 were airing. If someone is under 30, they grew up when VOY and ENT were on TV; that's just reality. Plus, the latter two are in a more modern "style" that appeals to the younger generation. TOS and the first half of TNG are far too cheesy and too filled with old and stereotypical sci-fi conventions for them to enjoy. Plus, kids nowadays are snobs for quality, and will balk at anything not in HD. Hell, the under-20's probably think Discovery is the best one just because it's got the best CGI and is in glorious 4K resolution.

From what I remember of the early 00's, TNG and VOY used to be in syndication often, but for some reason DS9 was a lot less so. If I had to pick a series the casual fans know LEAST, it would be DS9. They'll know TOS probably the most, but only in the form of memes and references, because it's the most iconic; they won't have seen any actual episodes, though.

Because of memes even turbonormies will recognize Picard.

Has little to do with it. I thought both Wars and Trek were dumb nerd shit until I was 14 years old and my sister and brother in law at the time sat me down and made me watch the original trilogy.

>>18498

>TNG and VOY used to be in syndication often, but for some reason DS9 was a lot less so

Bam, that's would be it. I almost rarely bothered with TNG, because there was too much fart huffing and proto-sjw anti-white(anti human) crap for to tolerate, in addition to the other shit.

But Voyager was on late at night, and was actually interesting…..well it had more murder per square mile and the crisis of the week couldn't be solved by crying real loudly for a massive Federation Warfleet to show up.

As far as TOS is concerned, a lot of people aren't farily warned at the ham and cheese nature of the show and have bouts of uncontrollable laughter.
