There were a lot of weird plot conveniences in that episode.
Updates are represented as a blackhole, because?
He has to keep the DNA samples in a fridge, and can't just save a person's data to his hard drive, once scanned?
The game can't actually be paused or shut off for real? Is programmer guy aware of this? He seems to believe he can pause the game, but then he doesn't seem all that surprised to find his captives active while he's away.
When the captives steal the ship at the end, the programmer guy can't just warp over there? You'd think that would be a developer tool.
