I feel like it's the best series for one. Lasting player effects, multiple playstyles and factions, relationships.
All other Star Trek games focused on the ships from what I know (Pic related, the text game).

There's an MMO that's still fairly active.. But the Star Trek IP and the rights to the shows, movies, and games are split up and none of the people that own anything to do with trek have any sense for how to use it properly. Chances are, some marketing stooge would tell them to make a MOBA or another CoD clone shooter or just another shitty mobile game. A single player RPG with branching storylines and factions and all that good shit would be deemed too much of a risk and not worth the time investment, when they could crank out some shitty DLC and microtransaction-ridden pile of shit and start raking in the shekels from autists right away.

I'd pay ALOT for such a game. If only they realised an autist would probably pay 100+ for it

Star Trek Online is pretty much a single player RPG, with microtransactions. There's a ridiculous amount of single player content now, which you can join up with other people to do if you want, but nobody ever does. Probably take 100 hours to get through all of it. There's other players all over the place but they're all doing single player content. Multiplayer missions are just a mandatory grind fest, which you have to grind for shit after you hit max level, which happens quickly.

I would probably say none of that shit is worth it except maybe lifetime, and that's when it's got the $100 off sale going on. But, even that's less useful than it once was. Lifetime back about 5 years ago was superb if you really were into STO and had already thrown in a lot of time with it. Now that nearly everything basically runs on dil though, is a bit more questionable; sure you can get ships with the monthly token stipend, but you get ships anyway with events. Also the game quality's gone down as well in other areas, but there's little that can be done about that at this point.

To be fair though, event ships are all bastards, you never get the full package of specialization abilities with them.

lifetime would have been worth it 5 years ago, but I doubt this game will even exist for another 5 years. i can't believe whoever owns the rights to star trek games let it get to this point of a shit show. it's a total embarrassment. star trek games have always kindof sucked, but come on now, this is massive title, and they sold it to chinks who milk whales for tokens.

Mass Effect 1, not shitting. It had potential to be a decent Trek RPG but then they went JewWars with it.
Actually come to think of it a lot of devs who made Star Wars games have designed them like they were making a Star Trek game and devs who made Star Trek games have designed them like they were Star Wars games.

That'd be CBS and/or Paramount, and neither of them (as JJTrek and STD offer evidence to, hell with STO) give 16 shits about the setting even from a basic long term profitability level. Hell they'd probably like to see STO die since it's pretty much the de facto original universe series, and they seem to get fucking nuts over that shit these days.

We have no choice. /strek/ has to make a Star Trek game. Something like Chapter Master or Dwarf Fortress for Star Trek.

so are we talking game or simulator? i'd be eager to contribute to a sim or mod for a sim. Trek games can suck my dick, though. They're almost universally autismally-unsatisfying for a variety of reasons.

That's cause they usually focus on the (((Federation))) rather than any good factions.

what about a sim focusing on the episodic like nature of Missions? So you travel about, essentially completing episodes, thrown in some random encounters in space and reputations with the crew and other factions and you essentially have both.

keep it text based and multiple playable factions, mirror universes and time periods is quite easy.

Mass Effect exists only because for some bizarre reason Star Trek has never been able to produce a decent RPG despite the material basically being a perfect roadmap for how to do so. Somebody realized this, shook their head laughing then walked away and started ME.

Anyone think a /strek/ RPG would just descend into finding loli versions of their waifu's and spanking them on the holodeck?
