Gentlemen it has come to my attention that we have no board-tan. This warrants serious discussion for if we are to meme one into existence we need to establish right now what species she is, what faction she is and from what era. Not to mention things like her appearance, personality as well as her duties.
So in short, pitch your ideas for a strek-tan

The way I see it 'spoon licking' would either be as perfectly normal as couples kissing during the act, or the sort of thing that Cardassians keep very quiet about - like a human being into armpits or urethra play or something similar

>Do you think the designers thought they were making them cute?
hmm, I want to say yes. I feel like they almost always made the female half of a species very cute and/or hot, even if the male counterpart was just a regular dude. I doubt they thought otherwise when designing Cardassian women. Their ridges aren't as pronounced either on the forehead or the neck, hair is fluffier and in interesting designs (some Spoonettes even have the hairline not start as far back as the male's usually does) and ofc they added the blue to the spoon to make it stand out even more. They shouldn't be cute, but they really are and I'm glad.
>The way I see it 'spoon licking' would either be as perfectly normal as couples kissing during the act, or the sort of thing that Cardassians keep very quiet about - like a human being into armpits or urethra play or something similar

'Peg' was Royal navy slang for sex, particularly buggery. As ships were still a 'no girls allowed' kind of place at that point 'peg-boy' was not an actual rank but a term for one of the younger enlisted crewmen presumably one with a pretty mouth that the older hands would bugger on longer voyages. The officers aboard a ship would most likely have either abstained or selected another, prettier, crewman to serve the same purpose.

Maybe I'm just crazy, but now I do actually want to watch a series where a young, idealistic, SF Officer starts a relationship with a Cardassian girl (post-dominion-war) and has to deal with her family as the main plot of the show. Her father the military officer, her sister the Obsidian Order Agent, the mother who can't decide if she's outraged about you or happy that her daughter found a man, and her brother who still honestly worships The Founders It's something that the rest of the family keeps under wraps and not talked about. Then you've got the problems on his side of the family, the father who lost friends to Cardassians in the war etc.
You'd need to keep the poz out of it, but it could be an interesting project.

There has to have been a small number of Cardies pathetic enough to fall for the "we are so totally gods" line. They're an interesting and cool society, but that doesn't mean it or every member of it is perfect

I don't agree with him, but if you marry a Cardie you're going to have to spend at least some time with her folks. If nothing else, you married her, so her family is your family now.

Well sure, in exchange for their daughter, they fall under the protection of the Swolefleet. But that doesn't mean we have to hang out all the time. Once or twice a decade should be fine.

That expanded musculature is cutting off the blood supply to your brain again, swoletard. They're family, not that awkward, sorta-kinda-friend you made a few years ago.
Also, while pangolins are cute, I wouldn't go as far as to call them the cutest.

True, but 'pointy puppy' flows better and sounds cuter. Also, Alliteration's always appropriate.

Maybe one day we'll get Caitian's in the live action again. Or at least one with more effort and budget put into the makeup than the original series movies.

I think the only one was that unicorn dog in the original series.
Come to think of it, there aren't many doggo aliens that I can think of. You think companies avoid them so they don't have to deal with lawsuits saying their copying Wookies?

I mean, you already put up the pictures. Trek back in the 70's with its shoestring budget had better aliens than the bullshit blockbuster.

If i remember correctly, Catians aren't actually feline-hybrids or any such thing. They're just supposed to be humanoid aliens that happen to resemble cats. In my opinion, they went too far with the brief cameows in the movies in making them look like the cartoon Catians which were obviously over-the-top (it being a cartoon and all…).
If you want a Catian character someday, you're going to have to accept that it'll probably be dialed-back somewhat otherwise you'll get a character whose actor can't emote through the makeup like those shitty STD "Klingons". the JJ Trek Catians were a goofy call-back, but honestly they sort of had the right idea. Cat ears and eyes are most likely the best idea.. perhaps body paint resembling leopard spots or fur. A tail would be cool but it would have to be CGI and that might be too expensive. Cool aliens are cool, but when it comes to regular characters with lines, you want to avoid anything that fucks with the actors ability to emote, which is partly why we got a lot of forehead/ear/nose makeup in Trek (even the fake teeth for Klingons and Farengi were a hindrance tbh). Extra hair might work, but no way you're getting an actor in a fur suit. Sorry furries. That's just retarded.

<Wonderfully rendered, photorealistic, CG characters emoting better than 3d actors.
<A number of anons declare the Catian females on the crew to be their new waifus.
<Ongoing argument as to whether these characters are traps or, god help us, trans due to being portrayed by a male actor.

Why do some Trek episodes imply you can't go to warp in a gravity well?
fe7986 No.16925
>>16923
Script writers often forget things they established last series, or even last episode. Unless it's a major plot/characterisation point it's not all that unusual for shows to contradict themselves every now and then.
3617e2 No.16926
>>16925
Yes, I know that. I was hoping for semi-autistic in-universe explanations.
Conceptually speaking, Warp drive is one of the few examples of spess magic in the series that makes some amount of sense, and is theoretically possible to achieve if you have manage to create negative matter. Because of this you can make some predictive statements about how Warp drive works. The way I see it, there's no reason that contracting the space in front of you and expanding the space behind your ship is blocked by gravity wells. However, if any /strek/ denizens can think of a reason why this is the case I'd be interested in hearing it.

OK then, can you remember the statement/s in question? It could make a lot of difference, depending on the wording.
>It's a Star Fleet/Federation safety protocol, in order to minimise risk of collision with in system orbital traffic and stations. If an object travelling at 3km/s carries kinetic energy roughly equal to its mass in TNT, then what sort of collision would you get with a ship weighing tens of thousands of tonnes travelling at multiple times the speed of light?
by my very rough calculations you get into mega-ton scale explosions with anything bigger than a runabout travelling anything faster than max impulse
>Being inside a gravity well would have an effect (however small) on the trajectory the ship takes once it accelerates to warp speed. It may only put you 0.00000001 degree off course, but that adds up over a few light years.
>As warp field tech is either technobabble or a black box it might have negative reactions to excessively strong gravity fields.
That's just off the top of my head, if anyone with more info about the prohibition against spinning up the warp drive too close to a planet/star could weigh in that would be great.

Off the top of my head, the most definite example is some DS9 episode, where Kira is in command of the Defiant. They really need to get to the inner part of the Bajor system, and someone on the bridge suggests a low warp. In answer, Kira shrieks "Inside a STAR SYSTEM?!" before they try doing it anyways. Afraid I can't tell you what episode that was, only remembered it because of Kirashriek.
fe7986 No.16930
>>16929
Sounds more like the safety regulation there, assuming that the ship was able to warp after she objected. It makes sense, with the scale of the collision and the fact that at even a significant chunk of light speed you have effectively no chance to react to something moving in front of you - people struggle controlling cars in that situation at speeds under 0.000008C (60mph)
