At this point, anyone who updates beliefs and follows through in supporting policy that supports those beliefs will suffice.

I find that my preferences are so far from the standard that I'd have to overcome substantial inferential distances to explain them to the average politically involved individual. Don't most of you have the same problem?

I suppose it helps that I'm genuinely undecided on most things, because I really do not know whether I care about the simple and the wretched, or whether I'm willing to draw a line around 1000 or so rationalists and fuck the rest.

The city is full of lights, but in my cell, with the curtains drawn, with only me in it, there are very few lights to guide me. I'm not sure I give a shit what happens to most of humanity. I'm not sure I don't give a shit either. I wish there were a reliable means to figure it out, but the processes I know seem more like processes of creation than discovery.

I thought I was a communist, but since having children it's gradually dawned on me that everything I hate about capitalism - consumerism, destruction of community, ideological conformity, alienation - are considered good by the bulk of people who call themselves leftists today.
