PURPOSE: Vacation.
NOTE 1: Mr Obama and his wife Michelle were greeted at the airport by a selected few Heads of Department, Police Commissioner Michael Matthews and elected officials. The Premier's Office and local officials are tight-lipped on his vacation itinerary while in the British Overseas Territory.
NOTE 2: Barack and Michelle stayed at Moskito Island. The couple spent most of their time on the exclusive island and did not interact with the local community or the political class outside of a photo opp with Governor John S. Duncan OBE and Mrs Duncan and Premier and Minister of Finance Dr The Honourable D. Orlando Smith (AL) and Mrs Lorna G. Smith OBE.
NOTE 3: On Tuesday January 31, 2017 the Obamas flew in Mr Branson’s helicopter and took a trip from the private island to Anegada, another part of the British Virgin Islands and had lunch at Cow Wreck Bar and Grill located on the island’s capital city, The Settlement.
NOTE 4: Necker Island is a 30-hectare (74-acre) island in the British Virgin Islands just north of Virgin Gorda. The island's land is entirely owned by Sir Richard Branson, chairman of the Virgin Group, and is part of the Virgin Limited Edition portfolio of luxury properties. The whole island operates as a resort and can accommodate up to 34 guests, with additional room for six children.
NOTE 5: Barack and Michelle were not seen boarding the same plane when they left Palm Springs. Although they were greeted together upon arrival in the Virgin Islands, it is not reported whether they arrived on the same plane.
