I just googled it and checked a few articles. I didn't see anything directly linking them, do you have a link in particular you were thinking of?

The Vatican tends to distance themselves from the evil they do by using front groups, secret societies, knighthoods, etc.

It sometimes takes a monumental "deep dive" to tie them to something and they have the system so rigged they usually squirm away unscathed, even when caught.
