its not that they were wrong. but, this system of government only works when people are more intellectually focused, more independent and more about personal responsiblity.
If you just want to do whatever and let other people worry about all the hard stuff, like knowing the Constitution and how government works, and how laws work, and at least most of the other things that are really quite basic like psychology, sociology, how to fix a car, how to do some basic coding, then you really have no business voting on things that effect everyone, and would be better off under a monarchy or a benevolent dictatorship. If you want that extra freedom, you need to give up some power. If you want more power, that means you have to participate more, exert more effort, and therefore lose the freedom of being able to do what you want with that time. Instead of focusing on dating, you'll have to spend that time researching, memorizing, discussing, debating, reading, learning, practicing...
I nominate myself as King. And, whoever is King, they must be focusing on uplifting the populace so that we can, one day, after 2 or 3 generations, go back to a Democratic Republic, or a Republican Democracy, or a Direct Representative or whatever lol.
Just imagine the entire government shrunk down to the King and his administration. No congresspeople necessary, no Supreme Court, because the King, with help from his chosen advisors and experts from throughout the Kingdom makes all the laws and decides all major court cases, and is free to change his mind anytime he wants.
A King could gather all the child abusers from all the prisons and force them to fight to the death on TV.
A King could impose any immigration restriction.
A King could declare war against the Cartels.
A King could shut down Hollywood, and hand it over to us.
A King, could overrule any bullshite technicality injustice our society is riddled with.
