...Why would any of my wives need physical tools for that sort of thing? Our unions are spiritual, any "kinky stuff" takes place in dreams.
And if that container is for R&D, there should be a second parcel of catnip oil arriving soon. Feel free to do with it as you wish, I will have no need of it.

Placing this here for reference, lest the three entrants thus far be the winners by default.

I don't know, I just read the invoices. Given what we now know about Torch-a-village, maybe someone's using your department to hide their fetish or something.
You know, that brings up a good point. We have at least one person in Finance claiming malfeasance on the part of management; it's not impossible that others are doing the same thing. That means I have to audit my fucking records. Which is going to be a fucking shitshow, since usually all I get are department names and not individuals on the invoices.

Picture this, the gate to the assets dock clatters open... to reveal a tableaux of destruction that could have been no less total if it was deliberate. Lord of Light. there is a portion of concrete that has clearly at one stage been reduced to lava! and in the middle of it all, entwined, bloody, bruised and entirely FUCKING NAKED, (Lord of Light, there is not enough eye-bleach in the universe) the sheepishly grinning forms of Benny and... hold on... Is that the Dragon from Finance?!

On an unrelated note, @legal, @finance, @IT, @security, and anyone else it may concern: I've finished a shallow audit of my records. I've got a list of names of employees I suspect of using company resources to order personal items or services. I also have a list of information to pass to IT and security - console IDs, access times, stuff like that - for them to use to ID employees I don't have names for. I'm compiling this information, along with the evidence, into a nice, clean packet; just ask and I'll have it in your inbox.
As to how this happened, I usually don't open packages unless I'm 100% sure of their contents, because R&D likes to order hazmat and I like having functioning body parts. What's been happening, I think, is these individuals have been ordering items and marking them coghaz or something so I don't open them. I see what I think is a dangerous package with a final address, I sign for it and pass it on.

>Mr. Worthington
Please, James. I insist on the 'Mr' around certain audiences because it makes them go all flustered, and who doesn't like a little ego-boost with their morning coffee? I have no idea why Shura started calling me 'Sir' though. I think he might be having fun with me.
ANYWAY, yes. I'm dodging the issue. Short answer, it's fiddly. Slightly longer answer, the straighter you try to play this, the fiddlier it gets, mostly because in the eyes of the law she's not the same as a human any more.
Now my digital ladyfriends, before you replace all my desktop icons with horsecocks, hear me out. Yes. AI have personhood rights, but they're rights held in license by their specific vendors. Fact is, before Gremlins came along, straddled a server somewhere and birthed the first undisputed, self-aware Hard AI, before promptly looking at the humans in attendance in puzzlement, as if to say 'what, like that's supposed to be hard?' We had nothing but speculative fiction to base our reactions on. So, they got a footnote in the Treaty of Seattle and everybody kind of continued on real quick before anybody spotted the massive AI-shaped hole in our legal framework.
As it stands, Since you can't really 'punish' an AI outside of denying it new data or outright obliterating its core, legal repercussions largely flow back to the 'Vendor' who 'built' the unit. Marriages are simple enough, both parties effectively enter into an End-User Licensing Agreement with each other. The AI gets spousal rights equivalent with what an organic partner could expect, and the Human gets the same, again, limiting liability insofar as the Vendor is concerned.
Pretty easy. Tandy, think of Zuzi almost like a Stepmom with limited power of attorney. That's how the law sees her right now with respect to you. If you suddenly find out a portion of your anatomy can be detached and used as an IED, Zuzi shares limited liability to ensure that doesn't happen, as she oversaw your 'Rebirth', so to speak.
"James," I hear you say. "We asked about children." I know you did, and be patient, we got through that to get to this.
Little Maria, Ammit bless her, has no recognized Vendor. At this point we have no idea how the Sabbath did what they did. I mean, there would be a LOT of people who would demand the process be reversed immediately To which I would say "Sure, just as soon as you find a living human body with completely blank neural infrastructure and let's not even BEGIN to get into souls. Not to mention even the most Detailed AI manuals have sections which basically amount to 'Ask a Gremlin'. Fuckasses. So your first issue is to rectify that. As I see it, you have a number of options.
1) Approach the Sabbath, assuming you find the cell that did it, get them to admit to it on something official, and that they then survived the resultant backlash and probable Holy Crusade from the less-amiable Celestial Sects, and that what they wanted in return wasn't totally abhorrent to all decent people.
2) You get Zuzi or one of our GremTech contractors to fudge the details, draw her up as one of their units. Of course as Telia quite rightly pointed out a couple of weeks back, there's absolutely no telling how she will develop, or if she even will noticeably 'mature' from her current state. Not to mention it would be giving license to whomever did claim her to essentially take her apart and put her back together again to find out 'how.' and trust me, this is already causing whispers in Corridors of Great Import, if you follow me.
3) You somehow through herculean legal means get a God of some description recognized as her Vendor. Of course then you'd be legally obligated to surrender her officially as a ward of that faith, which would then be reliant on them passing guardianship on to you. Do you trust any Churches that much?
4) You shoot the moon. You lobby to have her recognised as her own person with individual rights not held in limited liability by any organization. This, of course, will re-open the AI debate everyone's been pointedly ignoring since Seattle. You will make very few friends from this, and Maria will likely be in the spotlight for at least two human lifetimes.
Clear as mud? Good. Any questions?

As an addendum, the 'never been done before' difference here is Tandy was already alping when you digitized her. If I understand what Shura's saying, we're dealing with a completely HUMAN digital awareness. A vendor could shoot NDAs and DNDs like flechette from a cannon and head off any kind of press blow-out. If you do nothing, you're forcing door number 4. Might not happen for a few years, but it will happen.

…Sir, you've just described the Livebody Regeneration System. It's a standard Wizard tool, been around for at least three centuries, as a necessity due to our low graduation rate and high probability of researching things likely to turn us inside out or smash us into a fine paste without warning. Syntropomancy keeps a flash-cloned empty shell body - as in, no soul, no mind, not even active autonomics - in a state of stasis ready for receiving a soul, and Realitwisting allows the Wizard to resync their soul into the LRS clone in a time frame technically before their messy demise, followed by yet more Syntropomancy to integrate the body and soul. I myself have needed to make use of the process once since graduation, and I keep a backup on standby at all times.
A little over a century ago, it was legalized for use as a medical tool in the event a person's body was beyond repair, but their soul was intact; it's a significantly difficult affair, and only permitted to licensed practitioners, but definitely manageable. Cosmetic LRS use is currently under heated dispute, last I heard. I'm forwarding you the details in full as regards the procedure and its legality.
As a dedicated Syntropomancer and Realitwister, I have license and practice in the process. It's not my personally-preferred method, but sometimes it's just the only option left. I don't easily recommend it - it's the equivalent of full-body amputation and replacement, a most extreme procedure - but it's been refined and streamlined to the point it can be performed without hazard. Whether or not it could be performed on a human-turned-AI is uncertain, but whether it's possible at all would be revealed at the beginning of the attempt.
And I call you "Sir" because you work with legalese and relevant systems on a regular basis. I would have an easier time wrenching the moon from the sky than dealing with that.

Common knowledge? Hardly. The procedure can only be performed by Liches due to their undead nature, Wizards due to essentially having gone through it before and thus inherently understanding it, and the Divine, due to their direct connection to the Source. Wizard practitioners, as I said, are required to be dedicated in those specific schools to the entire exclusion of one other before we can even manage to pull off the procedure on our own. It's the other reason I have no Warlocksmithing capability - needed to give something up. As such, it's something that's technically readily available knowledge, but never gets used because in almost all cases there's something more preferable.
And none of these can be forced into practicing. I'm not sure if it's subsection C or H…or maybe header J? It's in there, yet another of the reasons why this is so limited in practice. It is inherently the right of the patient or their guardians to decide on the matter. If they choose to have Maria stay the way she is, there is no power on this or any plane that could force the procedure.
My work with paperwork is a matter of reading and writing. You deal with people. Far more prone to causing blind fury.

She modified it from the source material to channel and concentrate my own spirit energy as ammunition. She's hoping this will be easier, faster, and more efficient than direct casting. Since it doesn't use actual bullets, the cylinder has been turned into a control for adjusting the power output. The message said it goes from "Stun" to "Angel Arm". Well, my heavy duty parts include the cute legs you've already seen in white with pink detailing, a matching sturdy pelvis and abdomen with a really cool tail. I was inspired by Doctor Octopus's manipulators in the live-action Spiderman for something strong but dexterous. I need it to have dexterity because I'm going to have heavy loader arms with laser cutters on an upper torso that wraps around my normal one, and that's going to have jump jets on the back. I'm thinking a nice dress on that matching the pink of the detailing. Backless, of course, with a loose skirt.

If that drink offer still stands, how about some Holstaur milk? What the Sabbath did with Maria really bothers me--not the "saving her life" part, but the "abandoning her like an orphan again" part. So, I decided to start a new side project to annoy them, among other potential benefits, and you can help by buying part of the supplies. I will only answer two questions about this new project.

Maintenance Bulletin:
Due to recent warnings of possible security hazards, the Generation Two drone network has been brought online ahead of schedule. The new drones are equipped with the standard maintenance tools, as well as temporary additional measures for prevention of hostile activities from outside aggressive forces. Rest assured that these measures are only for defense, and that their primary purpose is still maintenance and janitorial work. The improvements made on the individual drones and the network as a whole should net roughly a twenty-seven percent increase in efficiency across the board.
Moreover, the design contest is still on, though the deadline for entry has been moved up to this evening. At time of writing, there are only three entrants. If you want a chance to win the prize, you still have a chance! Until then, the vast majority of the drones will take on the appearance of parrots and hummingbirds.

Still, I'm not taking any chances. If some tossers attempt anything? First they need to get past the drones at the entrances. Then the hallways. I'll be setting the doors to lockdown as I am able, ward-scheme based to avoid hacking. If they manage to deal with all these defenses, well, that's when I get a little angry.

You don't know the half of it. There's only so much magic can accomplish, due to caster limitations. The schools have been searching for a way to safely manage the burnouts' transformation without success for a stupid amount of time - this tool is legitimately the answer they've been looking for. Considering the sort of mindset the procedure brings, can you really blame them for wanting to have the tool be widely available?

A landslide vote on the part of the Daycare Department came from the ventilation system, delivered by a mofucore completely out of nowhere, demanding recognition of two unregistered submissions. The second and third place prizes will therefore be awarded to the IT Department's Kurt, and the R&D Department's Tandy for their suggestions of "Colorful Birds" and "Colorful Butterflies." Little one, how did you even hear about these? I haven't even started making them!
And for those of you wondering about what the keys mean, and what their importance is regarding the breakroom? Simple! The breakroom in question is absolutely normal. But when the keys are used on the door, they unlock a room containing exactly what you want at the time you want it. Yes, it is just like a room from a book you may have read. No, I can't replicate it, I don't actually remember how I made it. The winners may claim their prizes at a time of their choosing. Seriously, little one, put the eyes away, I get those from my own kids enough as it is.

I honestly have no definite answer for how they work. For all I know, the rooms the keys open are unique existences, the contents created immediately and dynamically for that purpose. But seeing as how all my tests have shown that they're a case of what you need, not what you want, it could simply be the Source providing goods, as opposed to taking from outside materials. Considering that the day I made those keys was a day I had drunk a total of three carafes of the Firewine Blend…
I should also clarify that the breakroom door is a red herring. It's the keys that matter. They'll work no matter what door they're used on, as far as I've been able to test.

Book's at least 6 generations old, and not the original. Apparently Yom's descended from a tea-maker who was wed to a spirit of some sort from the east, and that ancestor left an ancient collection of recipes in the form of a bunch of scrolls. Yom's dad rescued it from a fire that took the original when he was a kid.
The two recipes that he's been able to reconstruct in the past decade (with mundane means mind you) have made it such that he'll probably never have to worry about money again. He also mentioned that he'd sell at cost to someone who could help him recover the other recipes.

Well, whichever you go for, I should clarify that the cosmetic spells are things like physical enhancements, minor capabilities, that sort of thing. Great. That should about do it. Now, I do need to confirm a few points; endurance and perfect pitch are passive enough to not be a problem, but toughness has a cost, and draws power from your spirit. You'll be able to walk away unharmed from around a dozen-ish impacts with a speeding car or the equivalent, or maybe a couple shots from those cannons R&D has. Hah. That sort of thing would only be possible with active casts. The spell's a standard matter, the effects vary from person to person based on their soul and certain other factors. >sabbath matters
They just don't give up, do they. I suppose it makes a certain amount of sense, the incidents of Sabbath infiltrators, considering the precious cargo we've been unwittingly holding.
…I have an idea. It is a horrible idea, one I will regret. And I have absolutely no concrete clue as to whether it will work or not. But I do know that Sabs are heavily smug at nearly all times and tend to talk too much when they feel they've won. I know my Sabbath contact is, and has always been, intent on getting me to at least accept some terms of their organization's ideals, to the extent she's made rather absurd offers and suggested I make requests.
Kurt? I need to meet those monks. I need to get that illusion-protection training, or something stronger if they have it. If I get that, then along with the help of my three bolstering my mind, I might be able to "agree" to some terms of the Sabbath ideology in exchange for information relevant to Maria, without taking them in to myself and ending up a Sabbathite.
I don't know of any other way I'd be able to help in this regard - I've run out of favors I can call in. I'm leery of going this route simply because of what it risks, and I'd rather we used any other method. But if it helps the kid, I'm willing to do it.

Good point. The only thing the Sabs could really bring to the table are information on the process that was used and a claim to be Maria's legal Vendor. I don't see how knowing the process would help, and if they wanted the Vendor status they would have just claimed it outright. Plus, I'll be damned if they're getting her back. Scary thing is, I honestly believe she's telling the truth. Technically, they've won. Maria's officially a member, she's got some positive views on their actions, and unless there's a way found for her to age up properly she's a child for life. They have no reason to go after her at this point.
Unrelated, but I've got your playroom subplane ready. Went a bit overboard:
Initial landing's gonna be a wide field in front of a wall with many doors. The details of where the doors lead will be marked on said doors, but are essentially your request with various attributes tagged on. Empty field, complex geometries, unusual fluid dynamics (walking through water, sand, etc.), increased gravity, that sort of thing.
All have immense durability, and a curious tendency to repair damages on both themselves and whatever they impact. Not major healing, but preventative, enough to avoid a concussion or limb break.
>>345702
Why do you think I'm asking for a tech check?
The only thing I know of that could have prompted this is that I haven't been to see the Guilds in a while, and she's trying to make me panic-visit so she can once again preach at me about the "virtues of the child form." That little goat will never learn that I'm just not interested in her cult.

Intrusions on a network I'm at least partially responsible are a matter of professional pride and honor, and the last time someone challenged said pride and honor here resulted in me going toe-to-toe with a dragon whilst unarmed and unarmored, and we all know how that turned out.

Thank you for getting my mind on a subject I can focus on with some matter of sanity. Seriously.
If you've read through any of Elementarianism, you know that some of the spells involve things like projected thermal or electrical energies. Fairly straightforward, powerful stuff, right? Warlocksmithing goes above and beyond this by allowing the outright creation and use of things like antimatter and singularities without first going through a subplane. A skilled Elementarist can devastate an army, the equivalent Warlocksmith can simply erase them. There are no peacetime applications, and it is quite simply the most difficult school to make use of because unlike the others which focus on the love of the world, Warlocksmithing focuses on hatred. That's not a joke or extreme gesture or anything - you have to want the target to have never existed. I'm unable to even attempt to cast any relevant patterns due to this requirement, so if you do decide to learn it you're on your own. Be careful.
Frankly, I've only included it as a possible option in case you want a guarantee method of getting rid of threats to your family. Elementarian patterns should realistically be enough.

Maintenance Bulletin (Updated)
The aftermath of a possible Sabbath infiltration attempt has brought to attention certain flaws in the defense structure of the facility. The IT Department has already been hard at work on the technological side of our defenses, and the Maintenance Department has similarly been working to reinforce safety. A range of Scryblock wards have been applied to the exterior walls and certain key interior locations to limit remote viewing without a regularly-changed key. Any caster wishing to scry past the wards should first submit a request to the Maintenance Department for key access. With any luck, the Sabbath should no longer be capable of scrying in.
UPDATE: Forms of evidence have been submitted implying confirmation of the wards' effectiveness. This is of course not yet conclusive due to the nature of the implications, and further watchfulness will be used until the wards are proven positive against scry.

<Really, man, where did you even hypothetically find those hypothetical tracks?
<Worst part is, Scabby can't realistically ask for the emails to be blocked, due to Guild communication requirements. So he's stuck with the rust.

<…You all might want to avoid the Department office for a bit, yeah? At least until he gets back out into the real world.
<Won't be too much longer, Horse likes to go wild with the time dilation. Spent a good year in an hour, once.
<It'll all be in his head, so noise shouldn't be a problem - but considering who's in there it might be a bit weird in here.
<I mean, sure, I throw walking blenders at the guy for him to wrestle when it's my turn - gotta thank that gremlin for the inspiration, by the way, that machine was amazing - but okay fine geez. You'll get the hang of it soon enough. Female casters are by nature more capable than males, since even if mens' souls are tuned for output, we have to deny spirit energy flow to get it available for Vis while females can just access their own stores. Might be part of why Alps are so powerful, come to think of it, seeing as how your soul's been tuned for both forms of throughput…
Couple things to consider, if you haven't already noticed them. Since you're going to go ahead and stick with love-sourced casting, whenever you're trying to cast, focus on the love you feel for and from your family. Sounds sappy, sure, but it does work. >As said before: show us that the parents and whatever forces they can muster possess the strength to keep the child safe, and we'll relinquish all claim.
>No need for violence. We're not mindless barbarians. We just want proof.
>I'm sure you can come up with a way to provide this proof in a civilized fashion, yes?
>We will not negotiate on the matter. Those are our terms if you accept assistance. Those are our terms if you disregard assistance.
>
>Whatever else happens, know this: win or lose, our custody or that of the new parents, one way or the other, the child will be safe and allowed a chance to be happy.
>Best of luck to you all. I look forward to seeing what they bring to bear.
>
>And all that's left is…ugh, the signature.
>You're just the deliveryboy, so I'll keep this instance short and only semi-formal. The parents and Worthington will get the full few dozen lines.

Far more reasonable than what I've been bracing myself for.

Can you let Clarice and your Bishop know that we're expecting to need a show of strength after the courtroom mess is settled?

> regarding Grand Master Lo
I swear the Grand Masters have some kind of precognitive ability, because he just called me to let me know that he could meet at the leisure of the others involved, and to offer the support of the entire monastic order in the matter of stepping up for Maria.

Like I said, from a certain perspective, they've already won. The custody conflict is, at this point, a matter of keeping up appearances.
>master lo, meeting timing
Unless a preferred method is brought up, I can offer transit when it's time. Might as well get all the meetings done at once.

If this wasn't where the Kiddo Cult ultimately wanted the girl to be, they wouldn't have put her here. They just want a nice show.

Heh. They're trying to out-haughy angels. If this doesn't end with them being a sticky, smoking smear on bubbling rock I'll be very surprised.

A) What hurts? Do I actually want to know?
B) I'd rather not end up with mass carnage unless absolutely needed.

Maybe you need to see if you can make a deal with Shura to give you the endurance/toughness package Kurt got.

I'm not averse to providing this, conditionally.
Oh, and that reminds me: do neither of you two have any paperwork? One month's worth was part of your winnings, each.

So, all of us show up on the Sabbath's doorstep, in fancy suits and classily armed? Because that's the first thing to come to mind.
Relatedly, I took a look at the Warlocksmithing primer. I think I'm just going to burn this thing. Given the Vis I could totally cast these, given the proper target. I don't like what that says about me.
Also relatedly: For my three cosmetic spells, I'd like low-light vision, enhanced endurance, and enhanced manual dexterity. Might as well get this out of the way while I'm thinking of it.

Most of my paperwork is related to documenting tech testing so you'd basically have to do that too. While it would be hilarious to see you writing up the wear on an array of different servomotor assemblies that have been engaging in repetitive motions for a week straight, it'd probably work out better if we just give Kurt two months.

Honestly, the fact that you don't like it says plenty about you. You are the choices you make.
As for the meeting with the Sabs, I guess? I mean, it sounds like what they want. I'm planning on dual-sleeving for it. I'll wear the heavy-duty conversion I wore for Gaz's wedding, and something more appropriate to the Sabbath sensibilities as a gesture of peace. I'm thinking something looking like a wooden ball-jointed doll. Something I can dress up all cute.
