Even after the rift opened, I found it tough to believe that a monstergirl would want me, let alone a girl I had already thought of as very attractive. It was only about a half hour after the news had hit, when I heard a knock on the door, and there she was with a small pouch and a faint grin. She claimed she was going to be staying with me from then on to continue her research into biology and psychology. Foolishly, perhaps, I asked her if she actually meant me and didn't in fact have the wrong house. I figured I was a depressed autist with a dead-end job, but she simply said she was in the right place and wouldn't have anywhere else to live if I refused. So, I agreed, and she set to work expanding the inside of the house with various spells and enchantments.
Naturally, the topic came up as to why she chose me and how she planned to subsist while living in our world, and she casually admitted she'd been observing me for some time already. Something about inter-dimensional resonance in harmonious something or other across the vast distance between our planes had brought me to her attention. I was embarrassed, of course, and realized she thought of me as some sort of project for her to "fix".
Still, she had her space and I had mine. Though she never ate she would always sit with me at dinner and would be upstairs around the time I left. She asked why I never engaged in the human breakfast ritual, to which I admitted I had barely enough willpower to get up and make it to work in the morning. She stared at me calmly and then turned to go back into her laboratory, or whatever it was.
The next morning she handed me a vial with a pale pink potion in it and when I asked about it, she replied it was merely a minor confidence booster, something to get me through the day.
I was skeptical at first, but over time I really did feel different. I started working out, getting out more, talking to my live-in lab lich more, which made me confidant enough to talk to other people, and it turn that made me try to take more care of myself. Eventually I even managed to start looking for a better job.
The night before the interview I told her over dinner how good I felt about my life and how much she’d turned things around for me. She got an odd look on her face but I continued and joked that pretty soon I won’t need her potions and she’d have to find a new line of research. Everything seemed okay, and the next morning I was awake early and ready to go with a piece of toast, waiting for my lab lich and her confidence booster. She wasn't there waiting, so calmly and patiently as she always was, so I went to her room to see what was the matter. From the other side of the door, I could hear a soft crying, so I knocked. Her crying stopped immediately and after a few moments she cracked the door. I could see her face from the hall light and even while she hid, she still had puffy eyes and the barest redness on her face. She'd clearly been crying quite a bit. When I asked why she was crying, she could barely get the words out. She told me "No more pink lemonade" Obviously I was confused, and she told me she'd been slipping me pink lemonade and telling me that it was a magical confidence booster, which made her scared I'd become too well and stop needing her, or worse be angry she’d lied to me. I couldn’t think of anything else to do, so I pushed the door open, took her in my arms and kissed her.
You’re welcome to attend our wedding in August, by the way,
