I think the issue is Sam is getting other people involved who aren't fucking funny.

He needs to reduce MDE back to him, Nick and Charls.

I hate how Hydewars is now just Sam always "giving advice" when it's clear he's just using Hydewars as self-therapy and trying to get paid for it. Charls does the same shit in his streams. They think just because they had a show on Cartoon Network that got cancelled they are now all-knowing gurus helping their broken audience, as if they need help in the first place.

They need to drop the politics and dieting/vitamin self-help bullshit and take themselves less seriously. The reason MDE was so great in the first place throughout the Obama years was because they were average guys just casually making funny shit when everyone was taking themselves so seriously.

I agree with everything posted in this thread. Some of the last good videos Sam made were brittain and hi emma watson, which are a year old now. Smocaine 3 and the joel challenge were made from old footage, so they don't count.

The problem now is, how do we solve it? How can we get Sam to make good content again?

I don't think we can, at least not right now. He seems to be shifting away from video-based content and I don't really blame him. He's been making videos since at least 2006 and he's in his thirties now. Nick's moving on with his life, Andrew's busy and Charls is working on other projects. As much as I'd love to get the "old Sam" back, I don't think that's gonna happen. And even if it did, it wouldn't ever be the same.

I feel the same way, even though I enjoy hydewars as background noise, I think I actually enjoy/pay attention to 10 minutes of each. It's basically a shitty tier podcast with a "premium" tag when most of those are free.

I don't mind the guy going full on books/games and other media, but still trying to milk from fans a rambling 1 hour video per month is pretty shitty (I don't know how much money he does with it, I bet not many people pay for it).

The latest one is literally with a guy sleeping on acoustic foam, for 1 hour, that basically has around 15 minutes of Ok-ish talk, meanwhile Sam acts pretty damn high and mighty.

I really hope the good ideas are going into the game (but in reality, we know that the game will suck, it's a pretty big deal for a guy that doesn't have real experience in the medium).

Isn't that a reason for him to continue making videos? He's been at it for so long and he's good at making them, plus, his videos are what got him his fans and fame. You're right that the Olde Samme isn't going to come back. His personality has changed too drastically for him to make those kind of videos. He tried to do a vertical vid in the first c500 video, the "new york" bit, but I thought it fell flat.

He's not completely giving up on videos though. We've got World Peace S2, and KSTV S2 coming up soon. I'm going in with very low expectations if C500 or HydeWars's quality is indicative of what they're going to be like.

It's hard to say what made MDE lose steam towards the end, but personally I think it's because all of the content that "MDE" has put out post-WP has been produced by Sam outsourcing his shit to a bunch of nobodies behind the scenes. Sam said this in a couple of his Hydewars videos, "oh don't be afraid to outsource your material so you don't have to do all the work! It's not fun editing, it's okay to make others do it!", but look at what it has produced. We got Hydewars and a few low-tier MDE videos that don't feature Nick or Charls, and now this new c500 thing that plays out like a kid trying to emulate old MDE but failing hard. Remember when Sam did a Hydewars episode where it was just him and Charls talking? It was honestly pretty good. Then after that we got mediocre episode after mediocre episode, a lot of it ramblings and bitchfests, and then he put a fucking paywall behind it.

tl;dr Sam needs to stop outsourcing his shit to nobodies (i.e. people who aren't Joel/trappped, John Pelech, or James Price), start making more videos with Charls and Nick, and quit with the incessant bitching about how hard it is to be a (((content creator))).

Price and trapped have been with MDE for an extremely long time. Trapped did a lot of the work on Ideas Man, and Price started making music when orangy came on.

MDE shape-shifted after WP, just like they have before (think vertical videos, live performances, 2016 election poz). Sam and Charls are practicing their craft separately now, and releases are few and far between, but the content is still good for the most part.
