/k/ I regretted a purchase and I don't want to resort to selling it because no one should ever sell a gun.

I bought a Remington 783 a few months back because it was cheap and I never shoot it after I sighted it in because I realized I kind of enjoy open iron sights more so than using a scope like using the iron sights on a Mosin for example. I kind of want back up irons on this thing just in case and every where I looked I can't seem to find a way to simply replace the barrel with a barrel with integrated iron front sights. I kind of want to turn it into a temporary scout rifle like the ones Ruger has but I don't want to buy a whole other gun considering something like what I want would double the cost of this rifle vs modifying this one non permanently. I would rather just swap the barrel and put a rear sight in if I can so I don't do any permanent modifications.

Can something like this work? Just slap it near the end of the barrel and mount a front iron sight on? I know the rear and front sight might not be aligned and will need to be calibrated correctly. I don't want to use that because it looks stupid. I prefer an integrated one onto the barrel or something else that doesn't look all that bulky that I can slap on.

I still prefer bolt actions having iron sights as well, but how about putting a red dot scope on it.

Seconding this, a red dot would serve your purpose well.

If you don't want to go all-in, I'd recommend the low-priced Bushnell TRS-25 off of Amazonmake sure you get it from Amazon since the chinks try to sell their copies at a lower price to entice buyers, it's a huge step above similarly-priced chinese optics.

It's a hunting rifle, fam. Go hunting. Or maybe it's the optic you're using. What did you mount on it?

Mount a 1x scope on it.

A real gunsmith (i.e. not a part swapper) can mount a set of irons on your rifle.

How much wallet rape am I going to see if I put irons on something like a Howa. I want their sighted barreled receiver but apparently it isn't imported into the US, or at least not easily found for sale. Do I deal with finding irons and a receiver or would the cost put me into scout rifle/guide gun territory?

>no one should ever sell a gun

Does that apply to the guy you bought it from?

what is it chambered it?

d296a6  No.608162

I have lost all faith in gunsmiths, fuck gunsmiths.

He couldn't even get the irons off my mosin, which were simple silver solder. After watching a few youtube videos it took me five minutes and a rubber mallet to get them off.

The entire "gunsmith" trade is garbage.
