There's no discharge in the war!

Why haven't RATOBAR/RASTOBAR or however one might call it taken off as a way to increase performance compared to STOVL?

Cost I imagine.

Rocket engines have:

Comparably high failure rate

Strict storage conditions

Dangerous / hard to store fuels

High maintenance requirements

The aircraft needs:

Reinforced hardpoints

Stronger / heavier frame

The ability for the tail to work with faster airflow under it than over it

Basically it's a pain in the ass and not really worth it.

Because it looks ugly, there is no other reason. Most of these >>605084 are engineering issues which can easily be solved, for example: Instead of mounting them below the tail they get mounted after the tail, solves the issue with airflow; Instead of using liquid, use solid fuels, has the same maintenance, failure rate and storage conditions as the missiles aircraft fire thousands of; Carrier aircraft are already built with reinforced hardpoints and stronger heavier frames so they can take catapults, just use carrier aircraft.

It would even be more economical than catobar.the system of which takes up quarter of an entire deck and is a constant danger due to connection with reactor.

Could stack ten thousand RATO-like pods in that deck space, which is more launches than an aircraft carrier sees in normal use, and it's easy to resupply them.

Read the remainder of the paragraph, what the actual fuck.

I apologize if I offended, but is it not silly to ask for reasoning behind a claim when it's explained just a few words after the claim itself?

This thread was, up until this point, filled only with Canucks, Aussies, and Greek. What the fuck did you expect?

I'm pretty sure its not used because the flight deck would be completely choked out in rocket exhaust fumes after just a few launches.

20b569  No.605558

>>605552

Just install a series of fans across starboard side of the deck. Place a series of windmills across the port side of the deck, and it will cost you nothing to move the fumes away.

Why has nobody made a solid rocket designed to attach to the end of a single-engined fighter's engine nozzle that ignites with the afterburner for maximum thrust? like >>605084's pic, attached to the end of a jet with the afterburner igniting the rocket. The nozzle is already what transfers the force from the exhaust to the rest of the body, it can handle additional force from a solid rocket afterburner.

I couldn't see this working with any thrust vectoring system, though.

92b24e  No.606075

>>605593

It would ignite from the heat minutes after start, not on demand. It would also fix the exhaust geometry and fuck the efficiency and thrust produced all the way through the throttle range. On top of that it would need to be dropped after use to unfuck the exhaust and you aren't always over open ground / water.

Basically you talk like a fag, and your shit's all retarded.
