I want to make an AK chambered in 7.62x25mm more than anything right now. My current plan buy a AK74 parts kit and PPS-43 parts kit, and nigger-rig the thing together. I hope to salvage the magazine well and maybe the barrel from the PPS kit, while using a standard 5.45x39 bolt with a modified bolt carrier. Most builds I've seen use AKM receivers which required a lot of work on the bolt, carrier, receiver, mag well, almost everything. I'm hoping to avoid this with a 74 kit and a proper barrel. Any tips? The only firearm i've built thus far is an AR from a parts kit, which doesn't really count. Other than that the STEN MKII kits look neat, and pretty easy.

Why would you use a 5.45 bolt/carrier for 7.62x25 instead of a 7.62x39 bolt/carrier?

Parts kits don't come with barrels anymore. 2 seconds of searching would reveal this.

You would be using the PPS magwell, so that's irrelevant

A 5.45x39 bolt is the same diameter as a 7.62x25 case.
