Sparta has a lot of propaganda after that long format gay porno released a while ago. A lot of people have the idea of Sparta as a society of warriors who were better than everyone else because …. Rawr, or something along those lines. In fact Sparta was a society under nonstop, constant, siege. Laconia - the area of Greece they were in - was mostly populated by the Helots, who Spartans kept as slaves. Sparta was completely obsessed with making sure that the Helots never revolted, hence the militarised society (and the worlds first secret police). You then get into political power in Sparta flowing from the 'Spartan Heiresses'; basically Spartan inheritance law concentrated wealth in the hand of Spartan wives, and eventually a few of them got rich enough to keep both of the Spartan kings in their pocket.

Rome is a lot more interesting - certainly during the Republican phase, well up until the economic effects of the Second Punic War became apparent and began to wreck Roman society. Rome was a society where military service was seen as the most awesome thing a man could do, to the point where if you wanted to be a politician in the Roman Republic you needed to be a veteran. Military service was also the only way that a non-Roman could become a citizen. Roman history is a lot bigger (and more awesome) than can really be explained through an image board, but if you get any free evenings you would probably enjoy reading up on it.

There's a lot written about both of them. If you want to look into Sparta then I'd suggest starting with the primary sources

The government is not the nation. The government may have custodianship over the nation, but it is not some piece of property that they can auction off as they wish.
