If someone told you they wanted to be an expert on modern firearms, what media would you recommend them? Certain books, youtube channels, etc.

<Lurk moar.

>Learn basic physics, engineering, biology, manufacturing and material properties.

>Look up cut away images of firearms or even better, animations of it firing.

>Watch "Way of the Gun" and ignore 99.9% of depictions of firearms in media.

>If its in Call of Duty/Battlefield its probably a shit representation of the weapon itself and how it is manipulated.

>Look up Project Salvo and learn the lessons the US learned after ignoring the Nazi's data on the matter.

>GO FUCKING SHOOTING! ITS THE ONLY WAY TO PUT ALL THE INFORMATION INTO CONTEXT!

Here's a question: What about shit bigger than small arms? Most of us don't have the opportunity to go out and get practical experience with tanks, jets, and frigates. Books are the obvious answer, but we need a list of which ones are good and which are armchair general LARP faggotry.

Books are going to give you a very small window of data and information.

>Museums

>Data archives

>Spec sheets

>Interviews

>Combat history

>service records

>operational records

Want a wealth of technical data on US weapons systems and doctrine? Then the DTIC is your resource; http://www.dtic.mil/dtic/

A combination of LURK MOAR and asking relevant questions in relevant threads. You need a historical understanding of all weapons as well so looking up how it was done in the past and how it changed with what influences will serve you well.

I know I'm not pointing out specific sources but you need to do a lot of research on your own. More of, getting you onto the tracks for general knowledge, before you branch out into the specifics. Find a history on the subject, then look up important names. Follow the timeline and take notes on the important changes.

Also, talking to veterans is awesome if they liked what they did. Talked to a Nam Wild Weasel pilot once and got a much greater respect for how truly difficult the job was
