Alright /k/ I could use some help

I'm looking for an optic to run for my G3 and AR but I have limited experience with optics so I'm a little stumped on where to start. The only optics I've ever used were the M68 and the M150. While I enjoyed using them but I'd like to try using something different.

What would you guys recommend that wouldn't break the bank? What should I look for?

For the AR I'm okay with something decent out to 300m, but I'd like to push for something a little further for the G3. Somewhere between 300 and 500m.

The only things that are functionally different would be an elcan, which would destroy your bank, or an actual scope.

You could go for an eotech I suppose, which is sufficiently different from the aimpoint even though they're both in practice red dots.

You can also look into prism scopes since they're cheap and decent (but heavy).

What exactly do you mean by "something different"?

Something different as in different brands or styles i guess. I've never really paid much attention to anything other than the integral sights that already come on my rifles so I'm not all too familiar with what there is and isn't to offer.

Well I don't know shit about what is different for you (maybe the acss reticle is something that might fix that for you) but for affordable try a prism scope like what >>569485 said they're similar to the trijicon you posted (fixed mag with illuminated reticle). Check both primary arms and vortex which the prices should be around $300.

Would need a riser for your AR though

Not OP, but as long as we're on the subject.

Carry handle optics, yes or no? They are sexy, but what are the downsides of the higher bore offset?

Higher bore offset.

Unless you have a really long face, you pretty much give up the cheekweld you had with the irons. Its also feels akward.

First, what's your budget?

If it's high: Trijicon MRO and Browe Tactical optic (good ACOG clone that may be on sale for around $850) laso, check out the Primary Arms Platinum line of scopes.

If low: Sig Romeo 7 or DI Optical RV1. Both totally acceptable and rugged (Especially the RV1) and have similar function to the M68, which I have also trained with. Eotechs can be had on sale here as well.

For ranged use here, I would suggest the Primary Arms ACSS scopes. Great reticle, good price. Rob Ski has used them extensively and claims that while they're not as good as an ACOG, you would have to do some really dumb shit to break them.

Source: I have an MRO with MI mount on my AR and a PA 2.5x ACSS on my G3. Have trained with M4 and M68 CCO combo (limited).

In this day and age, it's not practical. If you're rocking an A2 or A1, just git gud with irons.

Gonna add a holster onto that?
