How well would 7mm Mauser fair with new bullets & powder?
do you need special bullets because the rifling twist is different from say 7mm rem mag?

It works great. PPU and Lapua load them with their latest and greatest and the round is still a proven killer. I just wish someone like Howa would would import a modern rifle in 7x57 to go alongside their new production 6.5x55 rifles.

That being said, I think it's work just fine. There are still manufacturers that load good bullets and powder. All you have to do is find a good action and barrel, and the rest is up to you.

New bullets as in some fancy Hornady A-Max? If so you'd just need them in 173gr and they'll be good to go assuming you're using a Spanish Mauser.

7x57 Mauser is an underrated cartridge in my opinion. It really is quite excellent, and I'm sure you can squeeze some additional performance out of it with proper load development.

Did you know that Venezuela adopted a 7mm version of the FAL? It's cartridge is a "spin off" of the .280 British.

139gr Prvi is the cheapest you'll get. Reloading will further down the cost.
