It's probably not, it just looks that way because guns retain their value.

Think about it. Dumb fuck spends beyond his means and buys a bunch of stupid shit. Electronic devices. Fancy clothes. Video games. 'Collectible' brick-a-brack. Among the pile is a zombie-green AR and a case of ammo.

Suddenly, the creditors come knocking, or his car breaks down, or something else happens to put him in dire financial straits. What does he have that he can hock and actually get something out of?

That's a pretty sensible reason to sell guns. Usually when I see "selling my collection" it's due to gambling, legal bills, or other stupid shit.
