Back in the 50s and 60s some biologists released monkeys in Silver Springs and Wekiva State Park to observe them and attract tourists. Most of the ones in Wekiva have been eaten by various predators, but there are a few out there. Silver Springs seems to have a bigger breeding population, but overall they're still a rare sight.

Anyways. The real reason is because Florida is a tiny little strip of subtropical attached to a temperate continental mass. The broader ecosystem attached to it developed temperate species. But when you accidentally introduce something from an actual tropical or subtropical region, it just goes fucking nuts and flourishes where the continental wildlife was merely comfortable.
