'Ghost Guns' are usually firearms built with serial-number devoid receiver, as the receiver is the regulated part in a firearm. You're not 'avoiding gun control' unless you're actively defying the law. If you were to fabricated a receiver and stick a lightning link in there, yeah, you're avoiding control on automatic weapons. But you can do that with a store-bought rifle, too. Homemade guns are legal provided they fall within the ATF's specifications and requirements, but obeying the law isn't avoiding gun control.
