I currently live in a b8 state so the 10 round mag fits my needs for now until things get better. My FFL charges $20 per transfer and I ordered 2 extra mags. I intend to put a light on it for a bedside gun (former bedside gun was a M590). How'd I do? What ammo would /k/ recommend for in home self defense in fuddyfive?

Speer gold dot or Winchester pdx are the usual reccomendations for whatever defensive handgun situation you're in. But why did you switch from (I'm assuming) mossberg 590 to a pistol? The shotgun will goodify better than a handgun in whatever big three cartridges of your choice along with having a big ass club to smack the faggots face in the worst possible situations.

More maneuverability in close quarters, can hide it behind my back if need be or tuck it in my pants. Open carry is prohibited where I live but CCW isn't with a permit (I'm working on it). I know that handguns are meant for fighting your way to a long gun but speed kills and I can definitely shoot faster with a handgun than my Mossberg as well as reload it much quicker.

i honestly don't know which retarded mall ninja home commando wannabe came up with this idea. handguns exist because lugging a 1050mm long steel/wood/plastic gun is fucking cumbersome. you want a gun? all the time? handguns typically weigh 0.75-1.5kg and are typically 200mm x 140mm. not massive. although a 11.43x23mm (fuddy five) is fuck off large compared to 9mm/10x22mm/etc. you can ssy your fuddy five can blow people away( if you're not using +p+ just piss off with your black powder tier velocity fag.) you picked a gun with a shit trigger btw. i hope you can get use to it. bought it for 300usd at most please.

Shotguns kinda suck unless you are outside tbh. Even then they aren't ideal unless you specifically need what a slug or shot offers.

They are long, and have a low round count, unless you go to expensive lengths to get what a basically a weird large bore subgun with a huge fucking magazine.

OP here. I looked into different ammo and here's what I came up with:

>.45 ACP 185gr ammo is basically a .40 short and weak so only stick with 230gr

>Remington usually has expansion issues except Golden Saber but that performs just above mediocre

>Federal HST seems to perform better than Hydra Shock

>bonded ammo performs better than non-bonded

>+p in .45 typically makes a difference in 6 inch barrels or longer, sometimes 5 inch. But mine with a 4 inch barrel won't see an increase in performance

Any thoughts on ammo selection? I'm looking at a case of Speer 230gr JHP 1000 rounds for $499 shipped. It seems $0.50 a round for defence ammo is typical and $0.30 a round for FMJ. I plan on reloading lead for practice ammo once I get a good collection of brass piled up.

First target is at 25 yards with some 230gr JHPs and 200gr SWCs. Second targets is at 20 feet with mostly 230gr FMJs and the 3rd target has 5 200gr SWCs on it. I have a medium sized backstrap that came with the pistol and after shooting indoors at 20' I ordered a small backstrap to see if it makes a difference. For reference I take a medium mechanix glove.

Also this is my second pistol I've ever purchased, the first being a CZ75b in 9mm.
