I'd pick a 4x4 with a diesel engine and decent fuel efficiency, a solid axle, manual transmission and as light as possible.

If bringing in the family isn't a concern, something like a Samurai with an engine swap (people have shoved in Jetta/Golf 1.9 TDI in there) is a very ideal package. You can even apply some lightweight armor in critical areas and still be able to get through rough terrain without much of an issue.

You would probably need to change the transmission axle and, of course, the gearbox.

Honestly Ford and GM are both stuck in the past, they don't want to pay for re-tooling so are using the same block and head designs they have been using for since the '60s or '70s.

Japan took the lead in car design because their industry took off in the '80s and '90s leading to much more modern designs.

Now Europe is taking the lead back due to regulations forcing redesigns and they are producing the first drive-trains designed with finite element analysis.

Sadly the US car industry did this to themselves by pushing for import taxes reducing competition and leading to them falling behind because they had no motivation to improve.

The Ford Ranger made here works well and the built quality is alright. The Hilux made here has shit built quality when compared to Malayan Hilux (I actually work at Toyota Argentina, all first hand experience). The Tacoma made in Mexico has (had?) rust issues. And so on.

Companies are shit and, as long as the issue doesn't translate to less sales, they won't fix a thing. That's why the kangaroo fucker right here >>536805 is right. We also live in a walled garden vehicle market and it sucks.

Absolutely necessary

Now what kind of vehicle you need depends of the task. A Samurai would be good to patrol, but in case you need to move men and heavy machine guns, a flat bed pick up is the obvious choice.

Now, recently I've noticed that propane gas companies here use trucks like pic related. I've been wondering about their potential to use such chink tier vehicles as improvised armored vehicles.

Pic related is something that I recently found out about and have never seen discussed here. It's a magneto distributor.

Way way back in the earliest days of hot rodding, people would use these rather than the more common points ignition due to the hotter spark it provides, but the main draw for people of our disposition is it literally needs no external power to make a spark. As long as you can get the engine spinning somehow, that's all you need to do. To shut it off, you just ground the tab on the side.

New ones can still be had for all the common American "small block" V8s, as well as a few more obscure ones, albeit for about 1200 dollarydoos.

a1cec2 No.536936

Actually yeah it should be mentioned that even if a car is carbed and hyped as no electronic/emp proof, you also need a points ignition system because electronic ignition is not shtf proof.

You can pay like 10€ to decide what the letter/number combo behind your local code will be over here.

For example: if you are from Berlin, your plates will always start with B, but if you pay the fee you can have plates that read :"B AB 12", "B A 123" or "B ABC 1".

The letter combinations HH, HJ, SA, SS and KZ are VERBOTEN.

7b6ac6 No.536948

>>536936

A magneto does use points for spark timing, so I guess it could technically be considered points ignition with a self contained charging system.

>>536944

Yes, but if it's an FPE used as a linear generator, the magneto would be superfluous since the engine generates its own electricity.

a1cec2 No.536951

>>536948

Yes I agree. I did a shitty job explaining. What I meant is that a hypothetical shtf system shouldn't be one that depends on electronics. The magneto system is even more shtf proof because as long as you park on a hill, you aren't batterycucked.

Killdozers would be only effective against an average burger police force or against armed civilians or criminals.

Also it'll rather be used to spearhead offensives, breaking thru the defensive lines/barricades. In irregular warfare, when both sides are lighlty armed, the heaviest armored vehicle almost always leads the way, supported by infantry and technicals.

Indeed, that's why ol' style massive Monstruos are a thing of the past. The fact that cartels started using RPGs gives you a clear picture of the situation. The new generation of Monstruos favor stealth and speed. They use double cab pick ups with improvised amor, usually just mild steel plates, Hardox plates from time to time. They're used to patrol the turf and to raid the enemy turf. On raids, the Monstruo ALWAYS leads, the other gunmen ride behind on normal, unarmored vehicles.

Its a balance. Same balance Caesar, Hitler, Putin and every other successful statesmen has dealt with. Too much competition and local production may die out- and not for lack of quality or any other reason within the control of those producers- but for natural reasons like resource distribution, labor costs, foreign government support ect ect. This doesn't demand some sort of communist state run economics either, just decent investment on the part of the government either in terms of R&D or business, which is regularly updated.

The irony of the whole this is that line of thinking becomes invalid the moment companies like Ford begin producing overseas, which they have been doing for decades.

I worked for a firefighting contractor last summer and on a few occasions took over as a driver for one of the Cummins that they had. Here's what I would describe them as.

>Incredibly comfortable

>Lots of torque

>Spacious

>Very wide, so maneuvering through traffic for someone new to pickups (such as myself) feels incredibly sketchy

>Probably not the best innawoods vehicle if you don't like scratching your truck

pretty fun to drive overall.

I've always though a RAM HD pickup with a Cummins would make an excellent halftrack base to mount shit like a Hawkeye howitzer.
