"Exercise" Bat

These "exercise clubs" have much more strength to them than a baseball bat because the force is weighted towards the striking end like a traditional club. If the police ever come to your house and give you shit about it, you can tell them it's just an exercise club as long as you haven't drilled screws into it.

Can you get shotgun shells (12 guage) easy? If so make a pipe shotgun. You get a 1 inch pipe and end cap for it (sorry don't know euro sizes for piping) this is your receiver you kust need to stick a nail in the pipe and stand it up in the center. Next take a 3/4 pipe which will be your barrel and chamber a 12 guage fits in it well. You may need to glue sand paper to a wood rod to sand a weld bead on the inside of the one inch pipe so slamming the pipes together will be smooth.

If you can't get shot shells but have some skills with sanders or an angle grinder then just make a bar hammer using a solid round metal rod that you grind an angle into one side. Not a blade angle but more like a 90 degree angle. The angle has less surface area than the rod so you'll be able to deal real damage like breaking bones fairly easy. Almost as good as an axe, not too heavy yet enough weight that a somewhat weaker strike will still hurt like hell. Plus you can make it for a fair price and even make a longer version if you desire whereas an axe will cost a bit for a full sized thing

Read up on unarmed combat and make sure to train. As for a weapon a simple light metal tube does the trick since it's easy to use, easy to obtain and can be used with one hand.

As mentioned here, something like an Indian war club would work very well. Baseball bats, lumber, walking sticks, police-style batons, etc.

Blade

Daggers are the ultimate self-defense blade, but they may be questionable legally-speaking. Make sure you check your laws. Basically you want something at least 4" long, ideally fixed-blade (though a folding blade would be more practical to carry) and it should be a dagger or tanto point. You do NOT have to spend a ton of money on a blade if it's going to be dedicated to self-defense; you don't need to worry about it holding its edge, because ideally you'll only have to use it once. So buy something relatively inexpensive and spend a couple bucks on a sharpening stone to get it scary sharp. The absolute rock-bottom-budget blade would be a utility knife/box cutter, but good luck causing much more than superficial damage with it.

Chemical

Pepper spray is cheap and available online, and there are plenty of recipes for DIY pepper spray. I've heard of people using bug spray as an inconspicuous self-defense weapon, but I seriously doubt it's anywhere near as effective as a proper product. For the average guy just trying to defend himself, I wouldn't recommend looking into bomb-making, but you can make small incendiary devices pretty easily at home if you look around online.

Projectile

Baseballs, billiard balls, etc., won't draw attention if you have them laying around in your house/car. You could toss them in a sock for a swinging weapon, and you could also keep them in your hand and use them to strengthen your punch. Darts can be effective, and if you have a dart board nobody will think twice about you having them laying around.

Have a broken axe and a new axe handle somewhere in your house. A nice hardwood axe handle is a great weapon, its light, and well balanced. In your car, an entrenching tool or shovel is easily explained, as is a toolbox with hammers and all that jazz. Carrying stuff on your body is where you struggle with plausible deniability, but a stout hardwood cane that tapers to about 1/3 to 1/2 an inch with a brass ferrule on the end makes a fine nigger-be-good stick. Learn basic fencing for thrust control and go for the soft spots.

You can buy a utility axe at the hardware store and the ones you wield with two hands are typically heaver then war axes. So welded chainmail would definitely not be the best way to go.
