First of all: Sure you can get a machine gun in every wndow, and probably also a trench network with mines and even automated turrets. Hell, you can geta tank, a mortar and possibly even a mini nuke in your basement if you really wanted to. But what would that cost? How much can you even spend?

Even if you can afford all that, so what? Go to sleep for an hour and someone will just cut power to your house while you are asleep. Even if you have an emergency generator in your basement and fuel/food for the next year, once that runs out, you will starve or freeze to deathe depending on where you live.

You are practically boxing yourself into a siege situation, where the ones with the longer breath will inevitably be the ones besieging you, since they can get supplies and you can't. If you manage to figure out a way to get a self sustaining nutrition system working in your cellar you can call the Swedes for your Nobel prize.

If you want to defend your home against an army, you will need comrades, an army for yourself and the means to feed and supply them. You need land and people to work that land, and possibly pay taxes too so you can pay your soldier and the workers in your factories.

In short, you need a nation to fight back against a nation in a traditional battle.

If you want to be successfull, give up the comfort of your home, live in the wilderness (or conceal yourself among the normap population) and wage an insugency.

Or you could just join the existing armed forces, defend your home from invasion by being in the army, by working in a factory, or by being an engineer ,by writing propaganda to get other to join, by teaching others how to be a better man, and

From what i can gather it works just like a mineshaft. wooden supports in intervals along the length of a given shaft. i suppose some knowledge of geology is going to be necessary also to understand the different soil types ability to slip or crumble.

All this can be done relatively cheaply:

$100 will get you 4 cheap lights, which should be enough to sparsely cover the entire perimeter of your home

You can get these super cheap… we're talking enough for every window and exterior door for less than $25. They won't be ear-piercingly loud, but I've seen alarms in the 80-100dB range for a buck or two each in big packs.

This can get super expensive very quickly. For about $100 you may be able get enough to cover just the first floor windows of your average house. At a minimum, you should cover any back windows or windows not facing the street, and your front/back door if it has a large pane of glass in it. Personally, I didn't bother with this.

Another option is security cameras with a motion alarm. I got an okay security system with 4 cameras, night vision, and a 500GB hard drive for like $120 a couple years ago, and it works fine. 4 cameras cover all potential entrances to my home, and the motion alarm is loud enough to wake me up at night whenever someone enters my property. This gives me the edge: I know he's there, but he doesn't know that I know. Plus, of course, I'll have videos of the bad guy to show police.

I second the shotgun suggestion, but I choose 00 buck. Personal preference, I guess. I also have a pistol in a belly-band holster next to my bed, ready to be strapped onto my waist/chest in seconds even if I'm sleeping naked.
