Some of their members did some crazy things - but if that standard of collective punishment was applied equitably throughout british society there would be no political parties, congregations, associations, etc. There is also the likelihood that these men were intentionally provoked by state harrassment or even directly instrumentalized by MI5 to carry out attacks. It might be that they themselves are victims of the deep state.

Can you make a more specific claim, perhaps without a synecdoche? It seems like this might be an extrapolation from Europeans' past experience with Jew worship. I'm not so sure if the conclusions drawn from worshipping a Jewish man are applicable to worshipping God. To believe that religions are some kind of universal social phenomenon is to operate under an assumption of a liberal premise so naturally one will arrive at a liberal conclusion.

And then they find out that they still have to read Qur'an and the Sunnah and actually pay attention to Hadith. I'm surprised at just how many people don't realize that Sufism isn't a wiccan meditation and crystal shaking branch of Islam … no matter how much they want it to be.

Some of the Sufi orders are far more strict and orthodox than even the Salafists. I'd say I feel bad for the hipsters who think it's a poetry slam, but I just can't bring myself to feel bad.

Nominal Islam is better then nothing. Most muslim countries are nominal muslim countries and it's easier to get into real Islam there than in a fully non-Muslim culture. At my masjid a white kid took shahada but was still *enthusiastically* practicing homosexual, we had an intervention and then the imam gave a khutbah about how it is impossible to be muslim and gay. We ended up asking him not to come back until he quit it. As long as there is a liberal west there will be queers but I'd rather they call themselves muslims even though they aren't - just like I'm glad that gay kid id's as muslim even though he ain't. A gay fake muslim at this point is better for us than a straight teetotaling christian who goes to anti-sharia rallies and makes death threats to mosque goers.

When it comes to the huge inadequacies of guys like Corbyn and Sanders… you're expecting too much. They're not muslim. The bar for them is much much lower than for a muslim leader and they are not the stewards of our community. Their destructive ideas would be applied across the board whereas other politicians specifically target muslims and hope to disrupt our communities while leaving theirs intact.

Many muslims are just cultural, non-practicing muslims. They are the water and we that try to be ghuraba inshaAllah are the fish. A "gay muslim" holding a banner while grossly offensive is no worse than a muslim that left the salah or does not fast ramadan.
