How come there is so much infighting and violence between them?

I observe Buddhist sects working side by side, they have no animosity towards each other despite spiritual disagreements and not having the same holy Scriptures and saints…

That's an over simplification. There are different sunni and shia schools of thought that have different opinions on the other sects
