"Allah is but one God. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. And sufficient is Allah as Disposer of affairs." [4:171]

Salam everyone.

I've been studying Islam for a little over a year now and I feel like I'm ready to take the next step. I haven't yet done the shahada because I want to do it front of witnesses. I have some questions (more practical, not really related to theology).

1. How do I get to know people in a mosque community? Do I call ahead or just show up? I've never been to one and I'm really nervous.

2. Would I be accepted as a white Muslim? Like I mentioned, I'm really nervous about new situations and meeting people. I get the feeling that Muslims hate whites. I'm actually on a VPN and I live in a western country.

3. Can I live life as a secret Muslim for a bit? My family belongs to Christianity, but I wouldn't want to tell them about my conversion (at least for the first few years).

4. Is it possible to get married as a convert (or 'revert')? I hear that most Muslim affairs are cultural and it's usually Desis marrying Desis, Algerians marrying Algerians, etc.

>1. How do I get to know people in a mosque community?

Just show up. If you go in during prayer, just wait quietly at the back until they're done. Then go start saying hello and shaking hands. Mention you want to convert and they'll help you out gladly.

>2. Would I be accepted as a white Muslim?

For the millionth time, yes.

>I get the feeling that Muslims hate whites.

And where do you get this feeling?

>3. Can I live life as a secret Muslim for a bit?

Unless your life is somehow in danger, then no.

>4. Is it possible to get married as a convert (or 'revert')?

Yes, of course.

>rejecting salo now for virgins later

you shame your ancestors–

>I'm actually on a VPN and I live in a western country.

such a great potential for jokes lost

>And where do you get this feeling?

Probably from being around them. Time to pluck your head from your ass, buddy, Muslims in Western Europe are p. hostile.

>Muslims in Western Europe are p. hostile.

Perhaps the Muslims in Western Europe are given a reason to be hostile. You can crawl back under the rock from which you came.

>hate westerners

Perhaps it is you that should crawl back into the sand dune that you came from.

One of the freedoms of being American is that I don't have to like everything about America. As a matter of fact, I even have the freedom to speak out against America, its government, and its laws.

Neat, eh?

Hey OP, I'm just starting to study Islam, only been at it for a couple weeks. Could you post the resources you've found useful over your past year of study?

>Muslims in Western Europe are given a reason to be hostile

Nah. They aren't.

A solution to the criticism of nationalists and ultraliberals is not to become a hardcore Islamist.

That just makes things worse. Although, to be fair, it makes it so that there are less people in Europe to feel sorry about once Russia steamrolls it.

I can't speak for what's going on in Europe, but I do know about what's happening in the US. If my community were being attacked constantly, then I would be well within my rights to stand up to the attackers.

Well, of course.

But Western European Muslims aren't being attacked. They immigrated to a snobbish, rude, angry, divisive and self pitying culture

And became a snobbish, rude, divisive, angry and self pitying Community as a result.

I'm not there, so I really don't know. All I can do is see reports from there and, these days, it's tough to trust any media.

Best way to get to know people in a mosque is to just go. Best time to go would be around Friday prayer friday noon, usually 1pm, because the mosque is the most full at that time. Let it die down a bit and go see the imam, they usually stay in the mosque for a while after the prayer.

As for skin colour, it doesn't make a difference. You might get a few guys surprised at your choice of religion, but other than that you should be fine. People in foreign countries usually just treat white guys differently because they're not the norm. Other than that I haven't seen any actual prejudice.

Converts are allowed to marry just fine. You might have more luck looking for other converts, just because people in Muslim countries tend to keep to themselves. It's less about prejudice and more about marriage stability and land.

Don't worry Japanon, we all love you too.

Someone calling you names on the bus isn't really oppression.

Yeah, I know. But someone firebombing a mosque is an attack.
